Karaoke For Fun and Profit #7 [Tuesday, Period 5, 6/24]

The Danger Shop was reset back to the original Club Mystique simulation from week one, but this time, there was additional seating for the guests invited to be a part of the live audience. "Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen!" said Mike, taking his place on stage. "Today we have a very special performance by our workshop students. These kids have spent the last seven weeks working on their performance skills and today they're ready to show you just how far they've come. No one could be prouder than I am. Let's have a round of applause for the students."

Cue the applause track, just in case the live audience wasn't lively enough.

"So, let's hear from our performers!" And with that, Mike got off stage and went to take his seat.

[OOC: Students, teachers and townies who know Mike or any of the students are welcome to join the audience! OCD ~~coming~~ is up!]

"Kind of a neat class, uh? I can't imagine myself getting up to do it, but I do other things," he said, grinning slightly.

"I'm one of those people who has severe stage fright, so it's not my thing," said Mary. "Mike convinced me to get on stage a couple of times back home, but at a comedy club, not at a karaoke bar."

"You did comedy?"

"Yeah, I did stand up comedy. It was the scariest thing I've done, but also one of the most exhilarating," said Mary.

He chuckled. "Were you any good at it?"

"No way!" said Mary, giggling. "The first time, I didn't get a single laugh. I did get to meet Adam Carolla, though. He happened to be in the audience that night and he gave me a few pointers."

"You are much braver than I. Ever think you'll do it again?"

"I've thought about it," said Mary. "First thing I did when I got to Fandom was find a comedy club in D.C. that had an open mic night. And there's been a few people that have tried to persuade me to get on stage at Caritas and tell a few jokes."

"I would pay good money to see it," he grinned.

"Maybe I should give it a try," said Mary. "My friend Charlotte told me that I should find myself a hobby."

"Yeah, how's that long-distant thing working anyhow?"

"So far, so good," said Mary. "I just worry sometimes that maybe I made the wrong decision, that maybe I should have done something different. But I have a lot of good friends who keep reassuring me that it will all work out."

"It will work out if it's meant to," came his soft reply. He wasn't exactly one to dote out relationship advice here.

"And in the meantime, I still have a life to live instead of worrying whether or not it's meant to be," said Mary.

"Yeah, you do. George Michael, he was pretty young, wasn't he?"

Mary blushed. "Well, he was young, but it wasn't like I was robbing the cradle or anything. Besides, he was pretty serious for his age."

And Johnny blushed at that considering his one time fling with her. He was even younger than George Michael. "I hope things work out for you two, I really do Mary."

"Thanks," said Mary. "And whatever is going on between you and Savannah, I hope you work it out."

She hesitated, then added, "Incidentally, the first rule of bondage is you never tie someone up and leave. You need to stay to make sure that the other person is safe. Remember that for next time."

"Thanks," he said, glancing at his girlfriend again. "I don't know. But thanks."

He cut his eyes back to Mary and the muscle in his jaw clenched. "Mary... don't."

"I just wanted to be sure you were aware of that, and that's all I'm saying," said Mary. She didn't want to go into how she knew about it.

"Now, I have to go cheer on my friend. He said he picked out something special to sing."

"I'm aware, trust me," he replied, not unkindly.
