Courtly Dancing and Defence: Week 4, Period 4

Aly had taken over the music room for their classes from now on, and she was just setting up the speakers as the students came in.  "Afternoon, guys," she said lightly, turning to face them.  "I hope you're all enjoying our tropical paradise."

"Today we're going to focus on a dance you all need to know if you don't already - the waltz.  It's incredibly easy, even if you have two left feet because it's basically steps on the count of three."

She ran through a quick demonstration of the basic steps, counting out loud.  "Any questions?"  Once they all were answered, Aly nodded, hitting the play button on her music.  "Then grab a partner and try it out.  Try to work with a few different partners if you can - it's good to get used to dancing with all different types."

"It's so nice to meet you too!" she gushed, almost skipping alongside him. "Are you a giant?"

Chad grunted a little; it was hard to tell if it was a laugh or not, but, for the record, it was.

"No," he said. "I'm just kind of big."

"It must be very useful," Giselle commented. "When you need to get things. Off shelves. And, um, the ceiling." She turned to him, reaching up to place a small hand on his shoulder. "Should we dance?"

Chad bent his knees slightly to help her out a little with that while he settled his hands lightly, decorously, in place, as well. "We...shall," he said, still thinking that shall was a really weird word, and then he tried to focus a little more on the steps they'd learned. Perhaps a few awkward initial steps into it, he commented, warning her lightly, "I'm not that good at this..."

"Oh, everyone can dance," Giselle assured him. "It's very easy - you just move with the music and your heart. Don't worry."

"...Okay," Chad agreed, finding that he couldn't really argue with that. "But I didn't say I couldn't; jus' that I'm not much good."

Giselle looked at him. "I don't believe that."

"That's 'cause we just got started. Plus, I'm paying a lot of attention to feet right now; soon as I stop, though..."

"You'll move them too the music, and I'll move my feet to the music, and we'll both be fine," she assured him. "It's just like singing. You don't have to even learn."

"M'not much of a singer, either," Chad admitted. "I play guitar, though..." He felt that was relevant somehow. "But, if there's anything to get someone to dance, it's music. The right music..."

"The guitar? Really?" Giselle looks insanely impressed and excited. "That's so wonderful! Will you play for me sometime?"

Now this was a discussion topic that Chad could be more comfortable, although he reminded himself to still pay close attention to making sure he was getting his waltz steps right. "I'd love to," he said. "I love playing. You play anything?"
