Galactic Vacationing - Wednesday

The Danger Shop was set up like a park with trees and a pond and ducks. Well, they were blue ducks. Blue ducks with teeth. The sky was an odd colour too, pink to satisfy the galactic portion of the workshop even though they weren't really doing all that much today. "Okay," the Doctor said when a significant group of people had gathered. "Last week didn't exactly lend itself to introductions. You all know who I am. When vacationing on your own, it's a good idea to get to know the people around you. Pick up a friend in the lobby of a hotel or in a park," he gestured around, "and get to know them while you're running around madly. Go on then. Get to know each other today, since you'll be running around with each other over the next few weeks. Show some manners. Name, when and where you're from and somewhere you want to visit."

Ella kicked at the duck now hopping up to snap at the hem of her skirt. "I'm beginning to see why so many girls here wear trousers," she mused aloud.

"Is the broom enchanted, or made by fairies? It seems like it must be useful."

"It's magic. And I don't know who made it. My mother was a Witch."

Yes, that got a capital letter too. Don't ask him why. He probably couldn't tell you himself.

"And yes, trousers are easier. But they aren't really used by girls where I come from either. You could make your skirt shorter if you prefer, though."

And no, there's not a hint of anything improper in his tone. He's just thinking practically.

"Mine was a Lady." With a drop of fairy blood, but that was hardly worth mentioning. "And my father's a merchant."

She looked down at her legs. "I'm too used to the skirts. Short ones just seem as though they'd be cold."

"I've only met one Lady," he admitted. "Well, other than the Queen of the O.Z."

And he didn't go on about that because it hurt too much to consider. That didn't show, though. He was very good at glossing over things.

"But we used to have the merchants stop by the keep all the time. What does your father deal in, if you don't mind me asking?"

He looked at her skirt again.

"Well, have you had any other troubles with it outside of this class? The skirt, I mean."

"There are rather a lot of them at home," Ella shrugged. "And he deals in whatever he thinks he can make the most money at. He travels most of the time."

She resettled on the broom, shifting her skirt away from the ducks. "The skirt hasn't caused so many troubles, though it does sometimes seem cumbersome."

"You might stop by the clothes shop in town, Pixie Dust. Someone there might be able to suggest something. Or, for that matter, you might try and find Miss Lulu. She might be able to figure something out for you as she's doing a course on functional clothes, that I recall."

He almost leaned back before remembering that he was on the broom. It all just felt so... mundane. Conversational.

Carnivorous blue ducks aside.

"They helped me figure things out. Things look a little different where I come from, after all."

Ella flashed a smile at him before securing her hands on the broomstick more tightly. He might be used to this, but she wasn't. "I'll look into both those things," she promised.

He noticed.

"Sorry," he said. "But at least the class is only so long. I've ridden it for long periods once or twice; it can get a little uncomfortable."

He made sure not to swing his feet as it would be rude to sway the broom.

"Are you just here for the summer? Or are you staying when classes start up again?"
