"I think maybe we should give it a few days," Bridge says. Which may seem sort of uncharacteristically mean, but it's not like anything *really* major has ever happened in the first week or so after new arrivals, so he doesn't feel all that bad about letting them flail for a bit.

Anders brightens. "Can I help? I can help. It can be like our last big legacy or something." He bites his lip and adds, "By the way . . . I'm leaving after the first summer session."

"I'm sorry," Anders says, and now he's kicking himself for saying it, because he's never wanted to be the one who puts that look on Bridge's face. "I've just got . . . there's so much stuff I need to get set up. Paperwork to make me sort of legal and everything if I'm gonna stay here . . ."
