"Just annoyed he couldn't be bothered to say anything to Dean," Sam said, stealing another pickle. "Would it kill him to wear a shirt? Honestly."

"Maybe he wanted to surprise him?" Dawn didn't want Sam to get all involved in hating Alec again, because that never ended well. "Possibly, and why should he deprive any of the new people of the prettiness of his shirtless self? Er, purely aesthetically speaking."

Sam was willing to let himself be distracted from the topic of Alec for the moment. "Does that mean you think I should go around shirtless at these things? Since you find me aesthetically pleasing too?"

Her first response of "Heck, yes!" was quickly drowned out by the louder and more emphatic, "No, mine!"

Luckily, what came out of her mouth was, "No. I mean, I do, but, well, Alec's Alec and you're you and I like it just fine that you keep a shirt on at these things, though, wow, aren't you hot?"

"I'm almost never hot," Sam said. "I like all my layers just fine."

"See, and I look at you and think heatstroke."

Sam took Dawn's hand and pressed it against his forehead. "Do I feel like I have heatstroke to you?"

"Well, no," she admitted ~~as her mun modded Sam's forehead liek woah~~. "But maybe you should?"

Sam laughed and settled on the grass a little more. "Would you feel better if I took off my top layer? Would that make you worry a little less?"

"Absolutely. Then you can be conscious and help me figure out how to eat lunch."

Sam unbuttoned his top shirt and pulled it off, leaving himself in his t-shirt and jeans. "What's wrong with your lunch?" he asked.

"It doesn't all fit into my mouth," she frowned at it.

"Maybe it needs a few less things in it," Sam teased.

She made a face at him. "You're just saying that so you can eat all the pickles."

"I am not," Sam replied as he swiped another pickle off of her plate.

"Are too." Though that didn't stop her from pulling all but two of them off her sandwich. She hoped it wouldn't upset the delicate taste balance she'd been going for, but unless she could fit it into her mouth, she supposed it wouldn't make a difference. "Want half?"

"Sure," Sam said, grinning. "So, what do you think of the newbies? Have you been scaring anyone with the truth about this place yet?"

Dawn promptly handed half her sandwich over to Sam. "I haven't really met any of them yet. Not so much with wanting to get more attached before I go, y'know?"

"I didn't think about it that way," Sam admitted. "I guess I'll just have to get attached and tell them all about you."

She snorted. "Yeah, because that won't be at all boring. Oh, my girlfriend who is away at college and left me here all by my lonesome. Let me tell you all about her so you feel the need to take care of me while she's gone and possibly kiss me just to make the puppy eyes stop."

"The puppy eyes are not that easy to stop," Sam said, turning them on at Dawn.

"Okay, first, mean," she told him, "Second, that makes you a project to the girl-brain. Like the tall, gorgeous much less snowy version of Mount Everest."

"...did you just call me a mountain?" Sam asked, too busy laughing to keep up the sad look.

"Maybe?"

Sam leaned over and gave Dawn a little nudge. "Hey. Don't worry about what's going to happen when you're gone, okay? We have months until that happens, and honestly? I don't want to think about it yet."
