"How's that gonna work?" Dawn asked, curious.

"I'm not entirely sure yet," Dean said. "But they know about each other and want to meet, so I guess we'll take it from there."

"Good luck with that," Dawn offered Dean another pickle and some chips, mostly by shoving the plate in his direction.

Dean happily obliged. "He's back, they're both here. I'm sure we'll work something out."

"See, this is where I can be smug that it's just me and Sam and way less confusing."

"Except you have to deal with all of Sammy's weird notions," Dean said. "But yeah. You make a cute couple."

"It's the price I have to pay," Dawn said with a huge sigh, then ruined it by giggling. "Seriously, he's coming around."

"Did the birthday present help?"

"We're still kind of on the prom dress," Dawn said, blushing, "but we're getting there."

"For someone who has as big of feet as Sammy does, he really takes little steps sometimes," Dean said ruefully.

"It's really okay, Dean. We're moving at our own pace, and it works for us." Really worked, actually.

Dean smirked at her. "I can tell."

"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked, making a face at him.

"Probably pretty much what you think it means."

"See? This is not helping. Now I'm all self-conscious girl."

"You don't need to be. Not with me. I mean, considering everything..."

She stared at him. "In what universe is that supposed to make me less self-conscious?"

"It's me?"

"Okay, yeah, it's you," Dawn said, wondering why they'd picked now to do this, and deciding that it was somehow Buffy's fault. "But, maybe you shouldn't know quite as much about me as you do know, y'know? Not that you can unknow it, or that it's worth unknowing, because that way leads to mindwipey and that would be badness, but, I mean, you're his brother, and most brothers and brother's girlfriends aren't so much with the knowing."

Because this was obviously the first time the thought had occurred to Dawn, yes.

"I'm not most brothers and you're not most brothers girlfriends," Dean pointed out easily.

Which was true. "You really don't think it's weird?"

"Compared to everything else in our lives?" Dean shook his had. "This is downright normal."

"This is not completely reassuring."

"You have to take life the way it's given," Dean said with a shrug.
