"Do not apologize," she said firmly, still misunderstanding his panic. "I came over here 'cause you looked nervous and I thought I could help and instead I freaked you out worse. Uh. Listen. There's nothing to be freaked out about. I promise. I'm a Guardian, back home. I protect people. We get a lot of people like that, here. Nothing bad's gonna happen."

"Okay," he said, nodding a few times. "All right. Don't worry, don't ask why weird things happen, don't let a gremlin bite me."

"Oooh, yeah, that's a good one," she nodded. "But gremlin bites are more ... I mean. If it happens, it's embarrassing and everyone teases you and then they all forget about it until it's someone else's turn. Not dangerous."

"Oh, heck no." Rikku waved off his concern. "It just makes you do crazy, stupid, embarrassing stuff for a couple of hours. Like when Gavin and Luke were telling everybody they were magicians, and they had a horrible accent and they kept referring to Artoo as und tiiiii-gah."

Just to make sure this was a reassuring story and not a panicky one, she added, "Artoo isn't a tiger."

"Like drugs?" Ned asked because he still thought maybe gremlin was a street name for something hard.

"I guess?" she said, scratching her head. "Maybe people could use it like that? Usually it's more like you're cleaning your room and boom, Gremlin bite, and then you go insane for a few hours and everyone else tries to get it on tape. Not sure anybody would pay for that."

"Does this place sell gremlin repellent?" Ned asked hopefully. "I'd like to buy some of that."
