Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Oh look, there were tables and chairs over here too, away from all the informational stuff. Enjoy the food!

"Are you the only ninja here?" The forehead protector had not gone unnoticed. Artists tended to like little details like that.

Ino considered him. "Nope," she admitted, "there's several others."

"Interesting. Anybody important?" He hadn't been able to see what village symbol was inscribed in the metal plate of Ino's headband. Again...probably for the best.

"Depending on your point of view," Ino said. "Sure."

And she was totally being a pain in the ass just on account of his forehead protector.

It was totally village discrimination.

"Mm." Deidara reached into the zippered bag at his side, then pulled his hand out. It didn't seem like he'd picked anything up, though...

"Nobody really told me much before I came here," he said, only sounding a little annoyed about it. "It's a...learning experience. Mm."

Yeah. Whatever.

Ino watched him warily, but shrugged a bit. "It's mostly you've gotta see it to believe it," she told him, "and learn to deal with the weird."

"I've seen weird," Deidara said smugly. He really had. None of the Akatsuki could really be called 'normal'.

Not that most of Fandom's wouldn't startle him.

She smirked.

"You say that now."

"I think you would agree," Deidara said, "if you saw Zetsu. Or Sasori-no-danna, for that matter..." He trailed off, obviously lost in thought for the moment.

"And you've never woken up the wrong gender or had your alternate universe children show up."

"No, but I've been confused for a girl before," Deidara replied lightly. "It was...interesting. Mm."

He wasn't touching the children thing. At all.

That made Ino glance at him appraisingly. "Were they blind, or something?"

Deidara shrugged. "Maybe." A pause. "They were afterward, anyway."

...

"Touchy about it, are you?"

"I'm not a very touchy person," Deidara said, deliberately misinterpreting her. "I'm an artist." He closed his hand, then opened it again. A small white clay bird lay in his palm, conveniently covering most of it.

"A very fast artist," she said, impressed.

"This?" Deidara looked at the bird. "This isn't art, yet."

He tossed it into the air, forming a quick hand seal. "Katsu!"

The clay figure exploded, a small-yet-brilliant flare of fire.

"Now," Deidara said, "it's art."

She clapped her hands together, delighted, all the while making note of the fact that that? Was probably a good hint about his way of fighting.

"It doesn't last long though," she pointed out.

"Of course not." Deidara sighed, suddenly exasperated. "It's art."

"Most art, as far as I know, lasts." Curiously.

Deidara scowled. "Sasori-no-danna thought so, too. But he's dead and I'm not, so obviously he was wrong."

Oh, logic.

...

...

"Oooookay."

Ino just didn't understand art.

At least she had good taste in hair styles.

"I need to move in, now. I'll see you later...mm."

It was more the lack of logic there, and Ino's leap to thinking that ~~crazy~~ guy had killed Sasori because of not understand art that had her worried.

"Sure," she said, "do I get a name though, or what?"

"Only if it's a mutual exchange," Deidara told her, flipping his bangs out of his face. The metal plate covering his left eye was a little...odd.
