"A what?" Ned asked, wide eyed. "A gremlin? That's a car."

"No! Didn't no one tell you?" Kaylee's eyes were huge. "They're icky li'l things that'll bite you and make you hallucinate!"

"Is gremlin another name for drugs?" Ned asked, note quite getting the concept of bite. "Just say no! I took DARE!"

Kaylee gave him a funny look and shook her head, rolling her eyes. "No! My big sister told me! They're little critters that'll bite you, and you do embarrassing things, but it wears off."

"Critters?" Ned repeated, suddenly looking around. "Bite? Why haven't they hired an exterminator?"

Kaylee shrugged. "Turtle didn't know what they look like, 'xactly. Just that the bite does that, but then it wears off."

Ned winced and looked down. Spotting the moon he'd drawn with his shoe, he jumped into the center of it.

"They can't come on the moon," he decided. "Safe spot."

"I don't get to be safe too?" Kaylee asked, raising a brow.

Ned looked down at the moon and then up at her and scooted back some so his heels hung off the moon. If they were really on the moon, he'd probably be dead but since they weren't, he could pretend he was balancing on the edge of the moon.

And then he looked back down at the newly created space and nodded at it.

Kaylee stepped in, standing on her tiptoes so as to take up less room. "Now all we got to do is set up all our stuff right here, and we're good."

Ned looked down, judging the space that was left. "Do you think our stuff would fit? I mean, we barely do."

"Well. Your dog, and then I could hold maybe something to tinker with," she said thoughtfully. "We could make it work. In the name of a gremlin-free existence."

"Digby's friendly, I promise," Ned assured her. "He'd respect the moon and your tinkering thing."

"And that's important," she agreed, nodding solemnly. "I only share moons with respectful dogs and nice boys."

"Thank you," he said, instinctively tucking his hands into his pockets to prevent accidental touching or brushing or anything. "I wore my nice boy badge today. It's under my shirt. But not pinned to my skin or anything."

"Sounds like that'd hurt," she said, nodding solemnly. "I forgot my nice girl badge, so you're just gonna have to take my word that I'm being truthsome on that."
