"Why? I mean I get that some of them could be dangerous if they decided to go all dark lord," she shrugged. "But the same thing could be said about me. So who am I to hold their powers against them."

Alex was maybe, maybe beginning to get the slightest inkling that mutants here weren't like mutants back home. Maybe. "But...but they're criminals!"

"I'm feeling just fine," she told him cheerfully. Because cheerful always killed the earnest sorts.

"Look, did Chris explain about this place? How it's sort of a nexus of weird? And all different realities and times criss cross here?"

"No," Alex said, because Chris hadn't. And he didn't believe this girl, anyway, she was obviously kind of insane. Mutants. Really.

"Your poor brain," Isabel said sympathetically. "Here's the thing. Fandom is some sort of pan-dimensional crossroads. Chris? Is from fourteen years in the future. In a dimension where magic is real. I've got a good friend that's vampire living in another version of Los Angeles. Another friend's a wizard from Ireland. Unfortunately you can't meet him at the moment. He's off to save the universe." She could go on and on.

"Me? I'm just an alien from Roswell."

"Oh," said Alex. "That actually explains a few things my commanding officer told me." Like why he didn't have to worry so much about breaking the timeline here.

"I didn't realize Sciencetologists had commanding officers," she observed. "What did he tell you? I've been here for over two years now. I can tell you if he got it right."

"Oh, no, I'm not a practicing Scientologist." That was right, wasn't it? Scientologists practiced? To him it sounded like they studied science, but he knew that wasn't right. "I really shouldn't talk about it. Orders, you know."

"Well I hope he told you about invasions, random weirdness, and the occasional gender swap," Isabel shrugged. It was pretty obvious to Isabel that he was hiding something, but she wouldn't push. He wasn't the first person to come to Fandom with secrets.

"I woke up one morning and I was guy. It was a very strange twenty four hours." Isabel pulled out her phone and flipped it open. Fortunately the picture she'd sent to Parker was still on it.

"That was me," she said, holding the phone out to him.

"You don't believe me." It didn't bother Isabel. She doubted she would have believed it the first day she was there.

"You will the first morning you wake up with breasts. Because the guys have changed as well."

Alex still didn't believe her, but that didn't stop him from defensively crossing his arms over his chest. "Right, mess with the new guy, I get it now."

"Honestly I'm not. This place is bizarre. I don't have to make anything up to mess with the new guy," she told him. "Hell, messing with you would be if I told you it was all perfectly normal."
