Gladys didn't eat, and she didn't drink, and she had only a vague understanding of what making merry entailed, but nevertheless, here she was, looming on the edge of the crowd, the glow in her eyes banked to a dull red.

Sokka stared at Gladys, who was apparently a student now. Since he'd spent plenty of time at the post office treating her like a servant, he was a bit worried by her displaying rather more free will than he'd understood her to have.

Still, he covered well. "...Gladys! Good to see you again! You're looking good -- have you lost weight?"
