Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Oh look, there were tables and chairs over here too, away from all the informational stuff. Enjoy the food!

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP. This is the FIRST post for general mingling. Please use this post first, if your browser can handle the comment load. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here and there is more room for mingling here.]

Teyla watched the boy for a few moments, wondering if he was content to simply stand there and stare, before she decided to approach him anyway.

"Were you not expecting to see so many people?" she asked, making her best guess.

"No, I wasn't," he said in a rush of breath, thankful that someone seemed to know what was going on. "Is it normally like this?"

"Only when there is an important event that brings everyone together in one place," Teyla explained. "People are usually more spread out, in less intimidating groups."

"That's good," he said because it was. He didn't know if he could deal with huge groups like this every day of the week. He could barely deal with himself on his own. "I've never been to a school picnic before. I didn't know you could hold picnics at schools."

"The people in charge like to welcome everyone. I believe the goal is to make those who are new feel more comfortable here." Of course, that didn't always work, Teyla realized.

"Oh, right, of course, comfortable," Ned said, nodding and looking around. "Does it always work?"

Teyla shook her head. "Not always. I found it much easier to become comfortable in the dorms. There are rooms where people gather specifically to socialize, and the numbers are always much smaller than this," she said, motioning to the crowd.

"Oh, good," Ned said, exhaling a bit in relief. "The last place I was, there idea of socialization was giving playing catch in the courtyard. With a book."

"Oh, it is not like that here at all, at least not that I have seen," Teyla said. "There are many people who like to cook, and share the food they make, and there is television-watching and...I think you'll find that the people here are very nice, as long as you are kind in return."

"Right, golden rule," he said, nodding. He could do that. He had done that. "I learned that one from my mother. I like to cook too. I bake pies. Lots and lots of pies."

"Oh?" Teyla asked, perking up visibly. "What kind of pies?"

"Any kind really," Ned said. "I learned from my mother. If there's ingredients and a request for pie, I can bake it."

Teyla broke into a grin. "I do not think you will have any trouble here, if that is the case."

"Do you bake?" Ned asked curiously. "Pies or anything else?"

[identity profile] athosborn.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have never had a reason to bake," Teyla said, shaking her head.

"You don't need a reason," Ned told her, shaking his head. "You do it because you want to."

[identity profile] athosborn.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I have seen others do it. It seems...complicated," Teyla said. "As well as easy to make a mistake that could cause considerable destruction to the kitchen."

"Well, yeah," Ned agreed, shrugging a shoulder. "It's not complicated. Ingredients, a recipe and a stove. That's all you need."
