As was his tradition for a new semester, Chad had come out to the picnic, finding himself the sturdiest looking table to sit on with his guitar, and play music for the new kids and the old kids too and maybe chat with a few of them if they wanted to talk, which he would like, but, if you got right down to it, Chad could be pretty shy.

His hairless kitten was sitting beside him, as was a small little container. He figured it might not hurt to pick up a few tips if anyone had them.

He tried hard not to play too many sad songs in light of Teddy having left yesterday.

It took her awhile, but Hinata eventually drifted close enough that she could listen in silence and hopefully wouldn't disturb him.

Half of her attention was on the music, the other half was attempting to figure out what had happened to his poor cat. Where was the fur? She tilted her head slightly and considered it.

Of course, Chad noticed the girl, noticed the tilt of her head which seemed to be focused on Prince Oscar Pedro, who was oblivious to everything except flopping his naked tail to the slow drags of Chad's chords. He played a little longer before commenting, in a light rumble, "You can come pet him if you want." Because, yes, he was under the impression that people might actually want to pet Prince Oscar Pedro. "He likes pettings."

She took a hesitant step forwards because, alright, yes, animals were much preferred to than people for getting along with them. Even if they were ugly little things. "He wouldn't mind?" she asked, even though he'd just said that the kitten wouldn't.

Chad lightly shook his head, the music still continuing. "Nope; he's a bit of an attention whore. Go ahead."

Of course, Prince Oscar Pedro had a keen ability of picking up on when people were talking about him, and his head shifted, bulbous eyes blinking at the situation before he honed in on the new person that was giving off the vibe of potential pettings. He looked at the girl and let out an encouraging meow, stretching his head forward so she could get there sooner.

She knelt down close-by, offering the kitten her hand and smiling tentatively. "A-ano, I'm Hyuuga Hinata." It was polite, she thought, if she was petting his cat.

As the soft and continuous purrs started to issue forth happily from the cat, Chad gave the girl a soft smile. "Yasutora Sado," he answered back quietly over the music. "A lot of people call me Chad, though. And that," he nodded toward the purring kitten, "is Prince Oscar Pedro Neko-kun."

Pause.

"The Third."

Hinata smiled down at the kitten. Ugly, yes, but sweet. Prince Oscar Pedro got more petting from her.

"A-ano," she asked him, "you gave me two names. W-which do you prefer?"

Chad shrugged a little, as he decided whether or not to be truthful or to be concerned with Hinata feeling comfortable. She was cute, and seemed really shy, so she didn't want to make her feel awkward and leave her calling him something no one else did just because she was clearly polite.

"Chad's fine," he told her.

"Chad-san," she said, smiling at him, "and Prince Oscar Pedro-kun." Hinata hesitated for a moment, staring down at the aforementioned kitten. "D-did he always lack fur?"

Chad smiled a little at the honorifics. He really did miss those sometimes. Then, he nodded again. "Yeah. He's a special breed, born without fur. A little different, but he grows on you."

[identity profile] shyest-eyes.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
She nodded. "He's very sweet."

"He really is," Chad agreed.

"Where are you from, Hinata-san? You're new, right?"

He was playing, and not singing, but there was something wistful to it that reminded her of the White Knight anyway. She approached hesitantly.

"Do you know 'I Give Thee All, I Can No More'?" she asked. "Or is it terribly rude to make requests? I don't mean to interrupt your playing, it's beautiful."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Chad gave the girl a light smile. "You're not interrupting," he said, and he proved it by continuing to strum along. "Don't worry. But I don't think I do know that one." It did make Chad frown a bit, though; he didn't like not knowing a song. "Sorry..."

"It's an old tune," she said, smiling faintly. She didn't realize how old; Alice hadn't discovered yet she was a hundred years out of place. "I'd offer to hum a bit to start, but my humming's rusty. Someone sang it for me once, that's all."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Only way to fix rusty humming," Chad pointed out kindly, "is to start up again..."

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"You'll have to excuse the rustiness, then," she said, clearing her throat and flushing harder. She waited a beat before starting, and somehow it seemed more appropro to sing it, softly. Not the version she'd known before, but the one the Knight had bid her farewell with.

"I'll tell thee everything I can, there's little to relate;
I saw an aged, aged man, sitting on a gate.
'Who are you, aged man?' I said, 'and how is it you live?'
And his answer trickled through my head, like water through a sieve."

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Chad listened carefully to the soft, rusty singing, trying to find the gait and the beat, head bobbing slightly before what he was playing before slowly started to morph into the tune of the song along with the new girl.

It was a little like magic, having him pull the song out of her hesitant notes and play it out for her. She didn't remember all of the verses, and she was pretty sure she bungled some of the words about the haddock's eyes, but when she got to the very end --

"That summer evening, long ago, a-sitting on a gate."

-- she smiled brightly at him. "Thank you," she said. "I haven't heard that song in a very long time."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
"And now I kind of know it," Chad said, still repeating the tune he picked up so that he could remember it better, "so I can play it again if you want to hear it another time."

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
"And should you want to hear it," Alice offered, "I shall sing it again, though I can't imagine you'd willingly subject yourself to that. My name's Alice, and I should have introduced myself before I interrupted your music."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2008)

[identity profile] senor-chado.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"You didn't interrupt," Chad reminded her. "In fact, you helped. And I'm Chad. Nice to meet you, Alice."

[identity profile] notyourpawn.livejournal.com 2008-05-10 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Pleased to meet you as well," she smiled. "It's rather kind of you to provide music for us. Are the picnics always like this?"

Somehow, he didn't seem to have the same nervous air that the new students did, so she was guessing he'd been here a while.

"The ones for the new students, yeah," Chad said, nodding. "And I always play at 'em. I like to. I just like playing."
