The sun was shining over the front lawn of the school (except for the part of the bleachers covered by an awning, in case anyone with sun issues had shown up), and the temperature had thankfully turned out to be perfect for the occasion. There was a stage placed prominently on the lawn, set up with a podium and a number of heavy metal chairs for the administration and guests. In front of the stage were platforms with more of the metal chairs; they'd been painted blue and gold, and were sitting empty and waiting for the arrival of the class of 2008. There were bleachers on each side of the platforms, for students, family, friends, alumni, and residents of the town who wanted to come and watch.

Alas, it was time for another class to graduate.

"Yeah, but not for months yet," Dean pointed out. "Who knows what could happen before then? You gotta live in the moment, Sammy."

"I know," Sam admitted. "Right now we should be celebrating, and showing Grace what she gets to do in 17 years." He smiled softly and reached over to tickle her.

"You want to take her for a bit?" Dean asked generously.

"If you don't mind," Sam said, but he looked like he really wanted to more than he sounded.

Dean handed her over. "But I promised her, I'd hold her up when the diplomas were given out and when her Mommy gives her speech. So I need her back then."

"That's fine," Sam said, taking Grace and giving her a hug. He wasn't going to admit that it made him calmer to be holding Grace, but then, he figured Dean would understand even without him saying anything.

Dean gave him a knowing grin. "You get to have her all to yourself next graduation."

"I'm going to need her, with you and Peter graduating. I can't even imagine what my senior year's going to be like." Grace made a little noise as Sam hugged her tighter.

"Remember she does need to breathe." Dean nudged Sammy's shoulder gently. "You'll be fine, Sammy. You're good with people, and Dad and Zoe and Gracie will still be here. And I'm never going to be more than a phone call away."

Sam put Grace on his knees, and gently bounced her up and down. "I guess. You won't mind if I call you? Not that I'll be doing it all the time or anything," he said quickly.

"And we're back to you being not as smart as you think you are."

"I don't know what you're talking about. I'm brilliant," Sam said, laughing.

"Obviously not if you think I'd ever mind you calling me."

"If you're busy on a hunt, you might not want to be bothered," Sam pointed out.

Dean rolled his eyes. "Yeah, because I've made a point of showing you your entire life that a hunt is more important than you."

"Does that mean you won't bitch if I call to keep tabs on you and make sure you're okay?"

"Dude! Of course not!"

Sam grinned. "Okay. Then maybe I won't mind so much when you go. At least, not as much as if I couldn't contact you all the time. Then I can have Grace all to myself to teach her about good music," he teased.

"I'm not going to be that far away, dude," Dean reminded him.

"My influence will be swift," Sam insisted.
