fandomhigh | Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2008, Saturday Afternoon (Part I)

The sun was shining over the front lawn of the school (except for the part of the bleachers covered by an awning, in case anyone with sun issues had shown up), and the temperature had thankfully turned out to be perfect for the occasion. There was a stage placed prominently on the lawn, set up with a podium and a number of heavy metal chairs for the administration and guests. In front of the stage were platforms with more of the metal chairs; they'd been painted blue and gold, and were sitting empty and waiting for the arrival of the class of 2008. There were bleachers on each side of the platforms, for students, family, friends, alumni, and residents of the town who wanted to come and watch.

Alas, it was time for another class to graduate.

"Hello," she said, ignoring the boy in favor of scanning the crowd.

Jared focused on looking adorable. "So what's a girl like you doing in a place like this?"

She paused. "Oh, you must not be very good at this if you need a line like that. I remember how that works."

"Hey!"

Oh, the wounded pride of a seventeen-year-old boy.

"Are you a student I've never had the pleasure of encountering, or are you related to someone so I only have to be nice to you for the duration of the weekend?" Aravis asked pleasantly.

"I'm here to see my brother?" Jared replied, with just the slightest hint of sullenness. "You?"

"My boyfriend," she answered, the sullenness reminding her a bit too much of someone else to make her wholly comfortable. "Who's your brother?"

She was afraid of the answer.

"Bet he's a real jerk," Jared muttered. "Booth, Seely Booth."

She just stared. "Are you serious?"

"Excuse me?"

She gave him a tight little smile. "Jared?"

Jared blinked. "Yes?"

"My name's Aravis. I've been seeing your brother for the last year or so."

"Oh."

"This is awkward now, isn't it?" she said pleasantly.

Jared was busy sulking. "He could have mentioned he had a hot girlfriend."

"He hasn't mentioned me?" she asked dryly. "Well. Hello. Aravis Tarkheena, or Lady Aravis, if you prefer. Yes, your brother is dating nobility. No, I'm not from England, but we can pretend that based on my accent if it would make you more comfortable. I'm sixteen, enjoy long horseback rides and swordwork, and am very much in love with your brother. Is that a sufficient amount of information? I've not exactly done this before."
