"A little bit after the wedding," Luke said, looking at the floor. "I've let the work at home sit on Leia's shoulders alone too long."

"You were where you were supposed to be, doing what you needed to do," Karal told him, reaching out to lay a hand on his shoulder. "I, for one, am grateful you've been here."

Luke's cheeks went pink. "And you've taught me what a priest should be," he said shyly. "I couldn't do what I have to at home without your guidance."

Karal went bright red and looked at his feet, touched beyond his ability to say. "Thank you," he said softly. "I'm going to miss you. And you know if you ever need me for anything, if you can get a message to me, I'll be there."

"What's a few galaxies and universes between friends?" Luke said, smiling. "And my father and Rory will still be here. It's not like I won't visit."

"Good." He nodded firmly, then rubbed his temple. "Your father was kind enough to invite me, but it's likely I'll miss the wedding. If I gave you their gift, could you see that it got to them?"

Luke fought back a moment of panic thinking of performing the ceremony alone. Karal wouldn't leave if it weren't absolutely critical. "Of course," he said quickly.

"Thank you." Karal worried at his lip for a moment. "I know I was supposed to help you, and I'm sorry." He dropped to sit in a nearby chair. "I truly am, but we can work together before I leave. You're going to do just fine, Luke."

Luke grabbed a nearby chair and slid in close. "It's fine, honestly," he assured him. "I know a little bit about duty. Life doesn't ever slot neatly into place."

"It doesn't, does it?" He propped his chin on his hand. "Though sometimes I wish it would."

"I think the big things do," Luke said. "They're just not on a schedule anyone ever tells us about."

Karal smiled a little. "That sounds like something my master would have said," he replied. "Glory, I hope you're right."

"That's the first time I've ever been compared to someone's else's master," Luke said, blushing proudly. "Maybe I won't be completely in the dark restarting the Jedi."

"My master would have liked you a great deal." Karal smiled and poked him gently in the arm. "Trust yourself."

Luke took a deep breath. "And Jaina's here and trained and normal. I can't screw it up too much."

"Exactly!" Karal beamed at him. "And, if you do, umm, screw up, acknowledge it, forgive yourself and move on. No brooding over mistakes."

"I leave that to other Skywalkers," Luke said, eyes sparkling.

He tried not to laugh.

He failed. "That's all I'm going to be able to think about in class next week! If I get detention, I'm blaming you."

"I'd be more than happy to sit in detention with you," Luke promised. "That man can brood like he's getting paid for it."

"I may end up with it, even if I avoid the brooding issue," he said. "Seeing as I missed class this week, and took Evey with me."

"You're both all right?" Luke checked, thinking like his father would.

"We are, yes," he replied after a moment, because in some respects they were rather better, and in others not quite all right. "Tired, because it was an early start this morning, but all right."

Luke nodded, listening for clues in the Force, but as always never pushing anything. "He'd worry."

Easier for him to push it onto his father than take responsibility for worrying as well.

"He does that a lot," Karal said with a small smile. "I'll try and reassure him."

"He'll pretend he doesn't need to hear it," Luke said.

"I could pretend I'm not trying to reassure him?" he suggested then frowned. "Trying to trick your father is a bad idea, isn't it?"

"He sees right through it," Luke admitted. "It's kind of a Jedi thing. Try getting something past Jaina some time."

"Oh, no." He shook his head emphatically. "I'm not going to try that. I don't need another reason to beg her forgiveness!"

"Another reason?" Luke asked, raising an eyebrow.

"There's been three bouts of Fandom Weirdness that saw me being rude to her, or embarrassing myself," he explained. "And they were more than enough."

Luke, to his credit, didn't laugh. "I'm sure she understood."

"She did, and she didn't even hurt me." He laughed sheepishly. "I, for one, am not going to push her restraint."

"Probably a good thing," Luke teased. "Her mom's got a temper on her."
