Library [04/17]

A cheerful Bridge arrives at the library and flops into a chair behind the counter, for once sans the usual coffee and morning snack.

". . . oh." No, the not-so-intelligent moment isn't over yet. "Why?"

"Passover starts on Saturday," Bridge explains. "And there's not supposed to be fasting on Fridays, so... today it is."

"Yeah, but I don't understand what starving yourself has to do with anything," Jen says slowly.

Bridge glances around suspiciously and then drops his voice to a whisper. "...Neither do I," he admits.

Jen actually giggles.

Don't get used to it, it might not happen again.

"Is this one of those things that's better left a mystery?"

"Probably," Bridge says with a nod, trying not to crack a smile at Jen's giggling. It kind of slips through anyway though.

Jen holds up her index finger. "Never tell anyone about this."

"My lips are sealed," Bridge says, miming a zipper motion. "Still, you should do it more often."

"Oh, no," Jen says mock-grimly. "And have people thinking I have a sense of humor?"

"Which would lure them in to a false sense of security," Bridge points out.

". . . aren't we supposed to be giving them a genuine sense of security?"

"Sure, technically speaking," Bridge says.

"Bad police cadet," Jen says, and she can't keep the corners of her mouth from twitching as she shakes her finger at him. "Bad, bad police cadet."

Unlike Jen, Bridge has no shame about random giggle-attacks. Which is why there is one happening right now.

"What?" Jen's voice is cracking juuuuuuust a little. "What's so funny, huh?"

Ignore that slight shaking of her shoulders.

"Nothing, nothing at all," Bridge attempts to look innocent. The giggling probably isn't helping with that.

"I have my ways of getting the truth out of you," Jen says, and there's just no way she can even manage to make that sound as threatening as she . . . doesn't actually intend.

"~~O RLY?~~ Oh really?" Bridge says. "Like what?"

"Like free pizza," Jen says. "When you can eat, that is."

"I am intrigued and wish to subscribe to your newsletter," Bridge says, tapping his chin thoughtfully.

"Hey," Jen says. "I only make so much slinging dough, so don't get any subscription ideas."

"At least tell me you work tomorrow?"

"Just like I do every Friday and Saturday," Jen says, and now she grins. "Barring bears, of course."

Bridge snickers. "What if they were tiny bears, like the sheep the other day?"

Jen considers this. "Tiny bears? I guess even if they tried to form a giant tiny bear they'd still maybe only be about my size, huh?"
