Library [04/17]

A cheerful Bridge arrives at the library and flops into a chair behind the counter, for once sans the usual coffee and morning snack.

"Summer thinks I should stop worrying about something happening to my Wyatt," Chris says. "But having the memories of what those other Wyatts did..."

"Alternate timelines can be tricky," Bridge says sympathetically. "And I think Summer's kind of got a point, there."

Chris shrugs. "I have two sets of memories that involve Wyatt going nuts and pretty much trying to rule the world. It's hard not to wonder."

"So does Wyatt," Bridge points out.

"But it's my responsibility to keep that from happening again," Chris says. "I'm the only one that can stop him."

"Maybe in those other realities," Bridge says reasonably. "But that's not the case here. You're not alone, dude."

Chris nods. "Part of me knows that. But I still feel responsible."

"He's your brother," Bridge nods. "And you might be younger, but you're also kinda more level-headed than he is- don't tell him I said that! So, I mean, that's natural, I guess. But you guys also have a group of friends who are willing to look out for *both* of you. Not to mention, like I said- he's got memories of his evil self too. It's pretty much a sure bet that that scared the *hell* out of him."

That... makes a lot of sense to Chris and he nods. "I guess I need to talk to him about everything."

"That's a good place to start," Bridge agrees.

"Things are going to be awkward for a while though, I think," Chris says. "Between me and Wyatt and me and Summer."

"...What happened between you and Summer?" Bridge asks, wide-eyed. He's still kind of hoping those two would get their act together and admit they like each other, and if something happened to set them *back* a bit, well... that'd be bad.

Chris looks uncomfortable. "I don't know. Things are... just weird."

"Bad weird?"

"I don't know. I... it just feels like there is something there between us that wasn't there before," Chris says. "And I'm not sure what to do about it."

And Bridge can't help the hint of a grin as he remembers the conversation he and Chris had had a while ago, about how Chris wasn't sure Summer felt anything. "You need to make a move, dude," he encourages.

Chris shakes his head rapidly. "No, it would be a really bad idea. We're roommates and friends and that's it. I can't risk that by dragging her into my crazy life any more."

"Dude," Bridge shakes his head. "She came after you even though she didn't have powers or any sort of formal training. She killed a demon."

"Exactly. I don't want her to end up in more dangerous situations because of me," Chris says, as if Bridge just proved his point.

Bridge resists the urge to rolls his eyes. "I'm sure she's the type who's just going to sit back and let her roommate and friend, if that's all you're determined to remain, get hurt."

"If we were more than friends then she would feel even more obligated to do something stupid," Chris argues. "Besides, what if I got possessed or something again and hurt her? I'd never forgive myself!"

"Unfortunately, the possession thing is probably gonna be a risk regardless of whether you date her," Bridge points out. "Taking in to account the world you're from and the place we go to school. But even then... she's not stupid. I think by now she's well aware of the risks, and I think she deserves just as much of a say in whether this thing you two have goes any further or not," he says gently.

Chris shrugs. "I dunno. I'd rather not lose her friendship. She's pretty much my best friend here after Wyatt."

"Dude," Bridge says. "As someone who's been on the opposite end of this particular 'but what if I end up hurting them?' situation before? Let me tell you, it sucks. Sometimes you just need to take the chance and be happy."

"I dunno," Chris says. "I'm probably just imagining things anyway. I bet she doesn't even really like me that way."
