Inventiontronics was in the Danger Shop today, and the Danger Shop looked like a generic field to one side and tall-treed forest to the other.

The guys standing in the field with long black trenchcoats weren't quite so generic, and a few had a bit of shiny metal armor covering one arm. Really, they were probably very hot in those outfits. That was Glitch's general theory as to their disposition.

Glitch, who was standing somewhere about the middle, waved everyone over for a quick explanation. Or, well, as quick an explanation as Glitch could give.

"Today, well, first, your projects are due next week." He let that sink in for a second or two before continuing. "This week, though, you're going to get to learn about defending yourself. With those," he pointed to the men in the severe outfits in the field, "longcoats over there. If you don't want to fight, though, you can head into the forest and deal with the anklebiters. That's probably more evasion than it is defense, but it's good to know if someone is chasing you to get at something you've invented."

It was a loose connection, but Glitch felt it was important and repeated it once before shooing them all off.

He looked utterly bewildered when the punch hit nothing but air.

He looked utterly enraged when he toppled over and landed on the ground with a thud.

"Perhaps we should revisit my way of doing things?" Willow suggested.

A low kind of growl sounded as he stood up.

"What did you do?"

Nope, still a little too himself to start revisiting non-violent ways to solve problems.

"This?" Willow replied, going for another TK push. This time she aimed for his chest.

He stumbled backwards, but didn't fall. Then he looked down at his chest and back at her a little wide-eyed.

"What manner of Witch are you?"

Not so angry, now. More wondering if he should switch sides and start taking orders.

"The kind that'll do more than invisible shoving if you tick me off," Willow replied. It wasn't a complete answer, but she felt it was to the point.

He nodded slowly and stood up a little straighter.

"Are you here to rival the Sorceress Azkadellia?"

It was always good to ask if a potential new employer was there to off your old one.

"That depends," Willow said. "Is she going to try to hurt me too?"

That would be a big of a clank as he crossed his arms.

"Probably."

"Then yes," Willow said. "There would have to be kicking of the patootie variety."

The longcoat raised an eyebrow and looked, almost, amused.

"Patootie?"

He shook his head though, and got back to the matter at hand. "Would you succeed?"

"Kicked your patootie," Willow pointed out.

Whatever bit of amusement had been on his face was gone. He didn't like to be reminded of things like falling on his ass because of a young girl.

"The Sorceress Azkadellia has more at her disposal than being able to push someone from a distance."

"Can she do curses?" Willow asked. "Or turn people into rats?"

The longcoat just looked at her for a moment.

"She can suck the life out of you."

He sounded very serious, and didn't seem the type to use metaphor when talking about work.

"Ah," Willow said. "Stake through the heart then."

"A what?"

Plenty had tried, of course, to kill Azkadellia through more conventional means than magic, but a stake? Points, though, for actually getting him to look surprised.

"Sharp piece of wood?" Willow replied, in case maybe he thought she was talking about cows.

Now he just looked perturbed. "I know what a stake is, girl. How do you even expect to get close enough to use it?"

"Have we already forgotten the part about moving things with my mind?" Willow replied.
