Ye Shall Be As Gods? – Class 13, Period 3
There was an unfamiliar looking man at the front of the class room today. Needless to say… Juli was not amused by this latest turn of Fandom whacky. Luckily, she was the only one who’d witnessed her complete freak out about it back in her apartment. Now, in front of her class, Juli looked… almost as composed as normal. Only male.
“In my world,” Juli began, her expression turning a bit lighter when shehopefully saw that she wasn’t the only girl that had been so… affected. “it is said that when a person dies that their thoughts and soul do not ‘go on’, but rather that they simple join into the collective consciousness that all people share on a level that runs far deeper than blood.”
“Accessing these memories, held jointly by all, we are able to accomplish by means of a device we gave the name ‘Encephalon’.” she wondered silently how many of them would know where they’d taken the name from. “This allows use to enter a ‘virtual reality’ where things that are affected there, will be affected in the real world. It is primarily used to visit areas that were destroyed in the past. Using the Encephalon, items that might otherwise be lost forever are able to be retrieved. The Encephalon cannot bring back living things, only that which is inanimate.”
“All of you have different experiences,” Juli said, still wishing that she wasn’t a man--which was one experience she’d never wanted to have—ah well, “and surely, each of you have things that you wish to go back in time and retrieve.”
“Your assignment today is to think about what you would bring back, if you could, while keeping in mind the Encephalon’s restrictions. Whether or not you share your findings with the class is entirely up to you, but I doubt it has to be mentioned that participation is a great deal of your mark.” Good enough, really. “It does not have to be anything meaningful. Perhaps a ticket for a play you missed, or a hat that you were particularly fond of. Not all that we hold our memories in is earth-shattering.”
And that, she thought thinking of the piano in her apartment, was the truth.
[Wait for the OCD is up! Have at it!]
