The Library; Wednesday [ 04/02 ]

Adah had to admit to still feeling a little weirded out by the weekend; childhood, for her, seemed so long ago that it was jarring to be reminded of what it had been like. She'd forgotten what it was like to be that new to moving, so that when she moved now, it seemed so fluid and easy by comparison, like in one of her dreams. She'd forgotten what it had felt like before she wanted to be a doctor and, instead, despised them, because all those tests and pokes and painful check-up sessions were still fresh in her head. She'd forgotten what it was like to still be so asleep, just barely blinking out of waking.

It left her even quieter than usual, and more mobile.

Rather than sitting behind the desk in a chair to organize the books, Adah was on the other side of it, hip leaned against it as she sorted out the different piles.

And the librarian was there promptly.

"Miss Price."

Adah's attention shifted, head turning toward the address of the Librarian a bit dully at first, her mind still on the ordering of the books on the desk. Then she blinked, and offered a smile that lacked a bit of the effort that she usually might have put into it with the Librarian involved. Her head tilted slightly, an unasked question of what might bring him from the confines of his office today.

A small basket filled with rabbits of various sizes was placed on the counter in front of her.

"I believe these are yours."

Adah glanced from the Librarian, to the basket, and then back to him and, despite herself, her nose wrinkled slightly in disappointment or disgust. Most likely both. She'd been wondering what might have happened to them....actually, she hadn't. She'd been assuming Bob had slipped away from her to go make her birthing nest at some point and then decided that she rather liked her freedom and decided to keep it. This was clearly not the case.

She wondered, briefly, how long he might have had them. The baby rabbits looked like they might have been out at least a few days, most likely more.

She tucked her lower lip in underneath her cheek, casting the Librarian a look that might have tried to seem innocent if it weren't so clearly divided between being amused and being distraught.

"Take care of them."

They had decided to turn his apartment into a playground and it had taken days to get them all back together again.

Adah looked at the basket of bunnies, counting them, imagining there were probably a few hidden beneath the others, too. Either way, there were...a lot of them. She glanced toward Bob, with a cool look, one eyebrow arched, the sort of look her father had given her mother when she popped out Adah and Leah. Then, she drew in a deep, strengthening breath, before turning wide eyes toward the Librarian once more. There was a slight question (she was loathed to think it could be considered pleading) in them, as if to make sure that this was what he really wanted, putting these poor, defenseless rabbits into the hands of someone like her. Did he really want that on his conscience?

They made a nest out of his books.

"Yes."

Adah closed her eyes and drew in a deep breath. With eyes still closed and breath still head, she ducked her head in consent. Fair enough, really. The duck of her head served a second purpose, though, in thanking him for whatever it was he had done to take care of them in the span of time between when Bob slipped out of her posession to seek out her birthing nest, and this moment now when the blossoming, happy bunny family.

And then a third purpose, piggybacking on the decline of gratitude, allowing her to open her eyes, head still down, so that she was peering over at him through her eyelashes with a light, shy sort of smile, another unasked question of if there was anything...anything at all..she could do to make it up to him.

Although pulling that off required every strand of working nerves inside of her to keep herself from smirking, or, even worse, laughing outright.

He gave her a dry look.

"No, Miss Price. Try not to allow it to happen again."

It was kind of nice, really, how Adah's face went red from the effort of not laughing or smirking or giving herself up, so that all she had to do was duck her head a bit more, turn it to the side slightly, and it could easily be interpreted instead as the coy, shy blush of embarrassment as she moved back around the desk so that she could settle in the chair to exactly see what the fruits of Bob's labor had been.

He sighed, shaking his head and returning to his office.

There might have been a wee bunny that followed him, though.

He didn't notice.

Taking advantage of how much easier she seemed to move now over when she was more than a decade younger, Adah and the cart covered and books are roaming the shelves. She was putting the books away in the proper spaces this time, but doing so in a very round-about way that had her traveling unnecessarily through the expanse of the library.

A sign had been placed on the desk after Adah, having put the books away, decided that she couldn't just sit behind the desk today. It declared that she could be found roaming through the nineteenth century literature section if she was needed, but it also noted that, really, it's a library. How difficult is it to figure out?

Since the library was only open to the Librarian and other aides, Adah took a few chances at eating her lunch standing up, as well, tossing little torn pieces of a muffin up in the air and trying to catch them with her mouth.

She never was very good at this game. She stopped once a piece hit her in the forehead and a crumb rolled into her eye and she spent about five minutes in pain trying to get it out. She was incredibly more agile as a seventeen year old than a six year old, but not that much more so...

Getting a piece of muffin stuck in your eye tended to calm you down a little. Adah was sitting behind the desk again, occasionally dabbing at her eye with her sleeve, since it was still watering a little.

Adah settled a compromise with her ambition, her freedom, and her body. She'd stay put behind the desk, but she would read up on research regarding muscle strengthening.

Should be around once afternoon hits *knock on wood*
