Ye Shall Be As Gods? – Class 11, Period 3

“Alternate realities,” she said, once her class had assembled for the period. “Simply by virtue of being here, at this school, every single one of you has at least some small experience with the concept and what, exactly, an alternate reality entails.”

Juli leaned back, hands crossed over her stomach. “In some cases it’s as ‘simple’ as winding up in a world profoundly changed by the alteration of a single event--whether large or small. A war won in one world was lost in another version of the same world, for instance. Or, on a smaller scale, a person gets into an accident and winds up falling in love with someone they’d never have met if not for that. In another version the accident never happens, and they meet someone else.” She smiled faintly. “I have heard even of people who have awoken as a different version of themselves. Older perhaps, or a different past, or a different gender even.” Listening to old radio broadcasts did pay off sometimes.

“Following that concept, today all of you will be considering two scenarios wherein you are but are not yourselves, and do your best--with the information provided—to hypothesize just how extreme any differences from your present self might be. This is an exercise in creativity; feel free to run with it as you will--whether alone or in a group.”

[Wait for the OCD is up! Have at it!]

Peter Parker.

A different Peter Parker. There are five billion of them across the multiverse.

Sky had what can only be described as a shiteating grin on his face while doing his usual listening and note-taking today. After what had happened last night which is being SPed, la, he might have even come close to bouncing one or two times.

Oh, alternate universes. And suddenly there was Jen, hating mirrors all over again.

Anemone hummed happily and started sketching images from her weekend as Serra in the margins of her notebook. So far, she was a fan of alternate universes.

Peter thought briefly of the alternate hims he knew of. There was the older him that Jamie, Teddy, and pretty much every other superhero knew. There was the younger him from a messed up Virginia Colony.

And there was the pig.

He wasn't going to talk about the pig no matter what.

Sky had to think long and hard about this question- especially because he'd never been suicidal before. He could, at least, relate to the whole "government doing things do you against your will" part of the scenario.

"I'm not sure I can imagine that," he said finally. "I've never thought about suicide, or what would drive someone to it, before... and the way I'd react... there are a lot of variables to consider. For example, how would my cooperation be ensured? I could be programmed to be a mindless, subservient drone, making the problem of obedience a moot point. If I still retained some free will, however, I'd probably harbor the want for revenge, to do something to correct the wrong that was done to me."

He wasn't at all thinking about what awaited him when he became Red Ranger or anything, nope.

"That sounds like a plot to a bad movie." Anathema commented. "And I'd be very, very pissed off and find ways to mess up the work they assign me."

"That's not really a theoretical for me," Anemone mused. "Eureka and Sakuya, my, um, sisters? Cousins? Something. As human-form Coralians, they were the physical equivalent of a fourteen-year-old human female when they were born, and neither has aged since. I'm the most developed of the three, but that may be because I started out human, rather than being pure Coralian."

"Issues are pretty straight forward. No one takes you seriously, everyone treats you like a brain-damaged child, and you're too short to reach the cookie jar forever. It really kinda sucks."

Inorite? I can't even get on during my breaks or lunchtime. Sigh. I know I somehow managed it the last time I was employed, so I'll find SOME WAY to handle it. ;) Either that or buy an iPod Touch...

Naminé will not be in class, as she is off in Europe. And then the City of Light. These things happen.

I lost my icons of alterna-Naminé, ie. Amber the bitch, so have an icon of Naminé and her former self Kairi.
