His plans to go tuxedo shopping soon must have been on Anakin's mind when he'd planned this week's lesson.


"Love is patient, love is kind," he began, then made the universal symbol for "blah, blah, blah" with his hand.

He might secretly be a soft touch on the subject, but he was hoping no one in the room would call him on it.

"In the Jedi Order, we were taught that in order to maintain proper distance, to negotiate impartially across our galaxy, we were to strive for serenity, not passion. To be proper Jedi, we should not know anger, or hatred, or love."

He crossed his arms over his chest and glanced around the room. "Is this an unreasonable standard to hold someone to? What do you think they were trying to prevent?"

"We cared on a macro level," Anakin said. "We were the ultimate diplomats, after all. A galaxy without Jedi falls apart. But we couldn't decide an argument because we liked someone more. And so having allegiances beyond the Jedi Order and the galaxy at large were prohibited."

She'd know how well he'd followed that.

"You removed bias, but what is there to preserve without passion?" she asked, raising a brow in amusement. Since...yeah. "What are you fighting for?"

"Isn't justice in the abstract enough for you?" he replied. "When I was at home, the galaxy was tearing itself apart at the seams. It was obvious enough what we were trying to preserve: a system that respected all life."
