Speaking in Tongues [22/02] The Library, Friday afternoon

Karal might have seemed a little distracted, today. Not for any reason at all, really.

"Well, I thought that we could do things simply today. I have an idea or two for the next weeks, but we all need to have a bit of language in common for them to work. The best way to learn a language is to use it. So, for today, let's just talk. We can have conversations, about silly things, or serious things, or anything you want.

Pair up with someone and help them with a language they don't know, teach them some words and phrases, and then try them out." He rubbed his temple, looking a touch amused. "Any accidental offence should be ignored, please. Try not to, but sometimes it simply happens. I once called a Rethwellan dignitary a small, blue turnip, for example."

[ooc: the teaching part can be handwavey, feel free to jump into potentially amusing conversations as people don't quite get the language they've learned right the first time.]

John decided to greet Andrew in Al Bhed, rather randomly. "Tu oui ghuf frana dra pydrnuus ec?" His eyes clearly indicated he was being a dork.

"You don't say." Andrew looked at John as though he had just said something terribly interesting.

"Really, I can never remember in this building," John said, looking around. "So, you seem pretty happy?"

"I've got plenty to be happy about," he replied, eyes wandering over towards Liir.

"I take it things are still going good," John grinned. "You guys planning anything fun for break?"

"He's taking me to another world!" Andrew was very excited.

"Liir's going back to Oz, where he's from, to talk to the Queen, and he asked me and a couple of other people to come along."

"Now that sounds much more important than what I was planning," John said. "You'll have to tell me about the Animals." He was still kinda curious.

"I'll give you a full report," Andrew said with a nod.

"What do you have planned?"

"Nothing concrete yet, but I was going to see if you and Liir wanted to head to the beach with me and some other people," John explained.

"Awww, John!" Andrew brought a hand up to cover his heart. "That's really sweet of you. I'm sorry we can't come along. Well, not like sorry that I have to go to Oz, because I want to go to Oz. Just like sorry I can't do both things. I wish I could split myself in two. Like two whole Andrews, not to half Andrews, because that would be a little gross."

John laughed, "Hey, I'm sure we can plan another trip sometime. No need to rip you in two or anything."

"We really should," he said. "I feel like we haven't been able to hang out that much lately. I'm slacking on my side-kick duties."

"I've been pretty lax on my hero duties, too," John added. "We should make plans when you get back."

"Can we do something fun? I still haven't gone into D.C.," he pointed out.

"We should definitely do something fun," John nodded. "I'm up for a D.C. trip. so long as it's not the art gallery."

"There are some pretty cool clubs there," he said. "Though none that would let us in till we're over eighteen, so forget I mentioned them."

"Who needs to be eighteen when you can make your own ID?" John asked.

"Who can make their own ID?" Andrew asked.

"We can. Or at least we can try," John said. "I learned about it in a workshop this summer."

"Does that mean I get to choose a new name?" Andrew asked excitedly. "What would yours be?"

"If I changed it?" John hadn't really thought about that before. "Maybe something like Fred." It had been his alternate John name, after all.

"Fred is a good name," Andrew said. "What could mine be?"

"I like it," John nodded happily. "You could be Chuck."
