fandomhigh | Library, Wednesday [ 02/13 ]

With the exception of the mood geared on seeming almost annoying cheerful, Adah seems to actually be leaning toward being a good employee today. She's ordering the books on the desk this hour, by the most conventional ways, too, not by her own system that makes sense only to her.

River had debated with herself whether the habit of visiting the library was one that should be continued or not, but she found it hard to stay away. Also, today she had something to deliver. She entered, hiding a wrapped gift (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/2503550.html?thread=111614846#t111614846) and an apple behind her back.

While her eyes were on Adah, her mind was also listening for the potential presence of Bob. She wouldn't visit him today. She had to be careful, as Kerrigan had pointed out.

Adah glanced away from where she was making a nice, neat stack of a small amount of law books when she noticed River. She smiled lightly and then leaned a little bit to the side, although peering around the books was proving easier than peering around River to see what she was holding. If the other girl was trying to be inconspicious about it, Adah had to admit that it could use some work. Either way, though, it was nice to see her, to see things regain some regularity (she was, of course, loathed against using the word 'normalcy').

Moving quickly, River was soon standing by the desk opposite Adah. The gift, tied with plenty of ribbons, she placed on one pile of books, the apple on another. "Not attempting to hide them," she said with a smirk. "Just to arouse curiosity." She tilted her head. "Not to be unwrapped until tomorrow."

Adah, straightening by the lead of her one shoulder, glanced from the gift on the law books and the apple on the history books, before settling her eyes on River in between them, with a smirk of her own. Which one, the present or the fruit? The fruit wouldn't be nearly as good if it couldn't be 'unwrapped' until tomorrow, but the present...well...given the amount of ribbon on it, until tomorrow is exactly as long as Adah would probably need to unwrap it.

Adah didn't get a reply to that, as River thought she'd be able to figure it out herself. Instead she crawled on to the desk, reached over the piles of books without pushing them down, and leaned her face close enough to Adah's to feel her breath on her lips. The movement had been graceful and swift, perhaps to fast, but that might just be a way to tease Adah.

It was too quick, but, most of all, it was just unexpected, although it did do a pretty swift job of answering Adah's vague curiosity as to whether or not River was intending on continuing to distance herself. The initial movement caused a reaction of tension in Adah's back, stiffening long her spine, but, as quickly as it had come, in the span of a single blink, she relaxed again, with a weak, embarrassed sort of smile as she blushed. River should give her warnings for those sorts of things. Adah lightly closed her eyes again and stretched her neck forward, to close the space between their lips that River had left.

....And now Adah is even limping around the library with a cart of books and putting them in their proper spots of designation...

...Clearly, quite obviously just wanting to impress the Librarian with what a hard worker she was...

With, of course, a break for lunch, during which only the magnanimous Librarian and other hard-working aides are supposed to be in the library...

Magnanimous might be pushing it. Just a little.

The Librarian stopped briefly at the front desk to look for books that needed to be put away. "Miss Price."

Adah lightly pushed a small pile of Olde English poetry books toward the Librarian before looking up, her head slightly tilted, and smile up at him with light questioning in bleakly blinking eyes. The perfectly crooked little picture of innocence she was, vaguely beaming up at him with her silent question of Yes?

Innocence. Yes.

He raised an eyebrow, curious as to why she was being so terribly insistent on this image.

Image? What image? Adah blinked...fluttered, even, perhaps...her eyelids a few times, expectantly waiting what it was that the Librarian had to say to her. Her eyes drifted, pointedly, but quickly, toward his office before returning to him, and she brought the crooked smile up a bit. He did like the gift, didn't he? Maybe she'd chosen wrong, and he didn't like blueberries?

"Might I inquire as tot he reason for the gift?"

The fluttering, while admirable in the execution, was pointless.

But far too amusing, even if only for Adah's own weird enjoyment.

Her expression fell, surprisingly smooth, into a small, disappointed pout. Did he really mean to say that he didn't know?

You know, Adah mused over her studying as she remained settled behind the desk, if there was one person in the world who could potential make even their actions sarcastic...

...it would most certainly, definitely be her. Because fifth period, clearly, just came way too soon, and how woeful she was that she might be having to leave soon. Whatever would she do without the knowledge that she would see the Librarian again for their club in the future?

Lee popped in after his class, bag over one shoulder. He almost attempted to do the 'I'm just stopping by' nonchalance but he figured she was used to that by now and, besides, there was no way anyone believed he was just 'stopping by' anymore.

Awww, but the just stopping by act was so cute. Although, really, Adah couldn't exactly be too disappointed, as he was charming either way, given he' hadn't said anything yet. She grinned, crookedly, at him in greeting.

"Just seeing me puts a smile on your face?" Lee asked as he approached before immediately waving a hand. "Don't answer that because I know you'll have a witty retort that has nothing to do with me and I'll just live with my pleasant thought."

That easily set the smile into a light laugh. "That's not fair," she complained lightly. "You didn't even give me a chance. I promise, it wasn't too witty. One of my less witty ones, in fact..."

"I'm quick on my toes today," he said, wiggling his fingers. "One step ahead of everyone."

"Well," Adah ducked her head contritely, but she was still smirking, "every dog has his day, I suppose. Must be a nice change."
