How to Survive Your Own Cooking, Class 6

"I thought I'd give you all something of a fun class before the mid-term next week," Lulu said. "At each of the stations, you'll find both a typical pizza crust and a loaf of focaccia. Choose one or the other, top as you wish from the fully moddable toppings here at the front of the class, bake them in the already-preheated ovens, and then at the end of the class we'll have a contest for the best-topped flatbread." She grinned, an uncharacteristically wide smile. "Remember that not all pizzas require a tomato-based sauce, so try cream- or oil-based ones if you like. Also, focaccias tend not to have a sauce in the way that pizzas do, although you are free to experiment there if you wish.

"If you're not familiar with either focaccia or pizza, there are handouts at your station as well for you to read before you begin. If any of you have questions or concerns," and here she eyed a few of the students who had been... having difficulties, "please, please approach me."

"I'd like to give you a reminder as well: next week is your mid-term. You will be required to prepare a full meal, three courses -- salad, soup, and entree -- of your choice. You are notpermitted to use recipes directly from this class. The library, I'm sure, has a wide collection of cookbooks, and the internet as well has many resources for recipes. Find them, and then bring them in for next week. I'll be providing the dessert for the meal. Feel free to invite your friends to share in the food -- I imagine that many of them will need the break during the week."

[OCD will be up in a moment is up! I apologize for the lame-ish class, but I slept in today, and so it's a bit of a rush job. ^^;; Also, mmm pizza.]

"I was hoping we might get to try that expert dough spinning thing," Shawn said poking at the pizza base. "Would've been messy, but probably fun."
absolutesnark: (Buh?)

"I probably shouldn't be allowed anywhere near something like that," Summer replied.

"Well, it's just dough," Shawn pointed out. "So, pretty harmless unless you're flinging it around at lightspeed."
absolutesnark: (Huh?)

"But this is me we're talking about," Summer pointed out. "I can't even make coffee right."

"And I burn toast." Shawn grinned. "We make such a great cooking team."
absolutesnark: (Hmmm)

"Maybe our combined bad cooking will cancel each other out and we could end up making a decent pizza," Summer said thoughtfully.

"Way I figure it, we cannot ruin pizza. It's just one of those student staples that anyone can make," Shawn said confidently.
absolutesnark: (Buh?)

"If you say so." Summer still wasn't convinced, though.

"I do." Shawn grinned and poked through the different ingredients on the table.

"Am I past the acceptable time frame to officially ask you to a dance on Friday, yet?"
absolutesnark: (Small Smile)

Summer smiled. "It's not too late."

Haku walked with Tamaki over to a table and grabbed a fococcia, chicken, feta, pesto sauce, bacon, pine nuts, tomatoes and mozzorella. "How do these look to you for toppings?"

This, to Tamaki's trained eye, looked like it was going to be something epically gourmet. Therefore, he had to nod emphatically with agreement.

"It shall be a most delicious creation!"

"I'm glad you think so, hopefully it will turn out that way since I've only seen it on television," Haku paused and tapped a finger to his lips a moment in thought. "Can you find me a red onion please?" He smiled sweetly at Tamaki and then went to cutting up the ingriedients.

Happy to leave the cutting to someone seemingly more skilled, Tamaki rummaged around for the requested onion and, upon finding it, proudly presented it to Haku.

"Our pizza will be the envy of the classroom, I'm sure," he said with a devilish grin. It was important to be confident, after all!

Very skilled, the knife hardly seemed to move off the table and yet everything was chopped.

Haku smiled as Tamaki returned and nodded. "Thank you, do you think you can spead a thin layer of pesto on the bread please?" He asked and he quickly made work of the onion.

Now, one might think that such a regal and well-bred boy (in his own words, of course) as Tamaki wouldn't want to be directed, but, truth be told, he was glad that someone knew what they were doing, because it was not him.

He found himself a spoon and began scooping pesto onto the focaccia, spreading it around in a circle with the back of the utensil. "Is this enough?"

"That's perfect," he smiled brightly with a nod. "Lets get some of the shredded cheese on there and we can sprinkle everything else on too."

Re: Assignment: Pizza and Focaccia! [Class 6]

[identity profile] princetragique.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Tamaki took a big handful of shredded cheese and dumped it on top of the focaccia. This was much easier than peeling potatoes!

"Ooh, that looks good!"

Re: Assignment: Pizza and Focaccia! [Class 6]

[identity profile] snow-white-boy.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
And Haku quickly moved to spread the cheese out evenly on the focaccia.

"It'll be better once it bakes, now lets sprinkle everything else on... lightly," he added the last so there wouldn't be a dump right in the middle, and he picked up the chopped peices of chicken sprinkling it around the bread.

"Ah, right. Haha."

Tamaki chose the red onion, first watching Haku's distribution of the chicken and then attempting to follow suit with his own ingredient.

After preparing his ingredients (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1688938.html?thread=103861866#t103869546), he started putting together the pizza.

The light layer of freshly-made tomato and pepper spread, lightly seasoned, was put onto the bread first. After that, slices of chicken carefully sauteed. The cheese went on next, mostly mozzarella, followed by the mushrooms and the spinach.

Cassandra simply watched. While she had no idea why Liir was doing any of this, she was absolutely positive that she could duplicate it on command.

"Would you like to put it into the oven?"

Re: Assignment: Pizza and Focaccia! [Class 6]

[identity profile] iseewhatyoumean.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
"I can do that." Cassandra reached for the pan and deftly moved toward the oven.

See? This cooking thing wasn't so hard after all.
