How to Survive Your Own Cooking, Class 6

"I thought I'd give you all something of a fun class before the mid-term next week," Lulu said. "At each of the stations, you'll find both a typical pizza crust and a loaf of focaccia. Choose one or the other, top as you wish from the fully moddable toppings here at the front of the class, bake them in the already-preheated ovens, and then at the end of the class we'll have a contest for the best-topped flatbread." She grinned, an uncharacteristically wide smile. "Remember that not all pizzas require a tomato-based sauce, so try cream- or oil-based ones if you like. Also, focaccias tend not to have a sauce in the way that pizzas do, although you are free to experiment there if you wish.

"If you're not familiar with either focaccia or pizza, there are handouts at your station as well for you to read before you begin. If any of you have questions or concerns," and here she eyed a few of the students who had been... having difficulties, "please, please approach me."

"I'd like to give you a reminder as well: next week is your mid-term. You will be required to prepare a full meal, three courses -- salad, soup, and entree -- of your choice. You are notpermitted to use recipes directly from this class. The library, I'm sure, has a wide collection of cookbooks, and the internet as well has many resources for recipes. Find them, and then bring them in for next week. I'll be providing the dessert for the meal. Feel free to invite your friends to share in the food -- I imagine that many of them will need the break during the week."

[OCD will be up in a moment is up! I apologize for the lame-ish class, but I slept in today, and so it's a bit of a rush job. ^^;; Also, mmm pizza.]

Happy to leave the cutting to someone seemingly more skilled, Tamaki rummaged around for the requested onion and, upon finding it, proudly presented it to Haku.

"Our pizza will be the envy of the classroom, I'm sure," he said with a devilish grin. It was important to be confident, after all!

Very skilled, the knife hardly seemed to move off the table and yet everything was chopped.

Haku smiled as Tamaki returned and nodded. "Thank you, do you think you can spead a thin layer of pesto on the bread please?" He asked and he quickly made work of the onion.

Now, one might think that such a regal and well-bred boy (in his own words, of course) as Tamaki wouldn't want to be directed, but, truth be told, he was glad that someone knew what they were doing, because it was not him.

He found himself a spoon and began scooping pesto onto the focaccia, spreading it around in a circle with the back of the utensil. "Is this enough?"

"That's perfect," he smiled brightly with a nod. "Lets get some of the shredded cheese on there and we can sprinkle everything else on too."

Tamaki took a big handful of shredded cheese and dumped it on top of the focaccia. This was much easier than peeling potatoes!

"Ooh, that looks good!"

And Haku quickly moved to spread the cheese out evenly on the focaccia.

"It'll be better once it bakes, now lets sprinkle everything else on... lightly," he added the last so there wouldn't be a dump right in the middle, and he picked up the chopped peices of chicken sprinkling it around the bread.

"Ah, right. Haha."

Tamaki chose the red onion, first watching Haku's distribution of the chicken and then attempting to follow suit with his own ingredient.

Haku smiled at him. "Looks good," he grinned and grabbed the next ingredient and just doing the same thing until there wasn't anything left to put on it.

"That's excellent!"

He really did mean it. To him, it looked delicious.

"Now we... bake it, right?"

"Yes," Haku nodded and moved to open the oven door. "lets put it in."

"At what temperature again?" Tamaki was not good with ovens.

"400, but I think they're set already," Haku said checking it. "But hmm... " He looked between the oven and the pizza. "The bread's all cooked already, so we'll leave it at this temp and just leave it in for about 5 minutes or until the cheese melts."
