Applied Inventiontronics, Perid 4 - Week 6

Glitch was at the front of the class again today, and on each desk were a few sheets of clean, un-lined paper and two pencils.

"Today, you're going to be working on the look of your inventions. For the first half of the class, I want you to sketch out a design. It doesn't have to be too detailed, but, the idea is that you'll get a feel for how it will all come together and look when it's done. Remember things like functionality and overall aesthetic appeal."

He smiled reassuringly at them, because this next part he was afraid they wouldn't really like.

"The second half of class, you'll be showing your sketches to your classmates and critiquing each other." There was a stern look before he continued with, "Nicely, please."

A moment, then, as he looked at them a bit expectantly before he realized he hadn't told them yet to begin.

"Oh, uhm, right. Go ahead. Begin!"

"Energy like, uh..." he waves a hand vaguely. "Psychic? At least in part."

"But thanks! I'm going to have to find someone to test them once I actually get to the building part, of course, but I'm not worrying about that yet."

That word got a reaction.

"Magic," he said in reply. He looked down at the schematic.

"You could probably test them on me. I don't have much of anything special."

He looked at his own schematic and considered what Willow had said. Well, not yet. Perhaps when he'd shown Bridge his own.

He held it out.

"Mine is, well, I suppose it'd be worn against the skin, considering. It's to record memories like a person would, something like a backup, so that if memories are lost they can be replaced, given back to the person."

Psychic energy wasn't magic from Bridge's perspective, really, but he was aware that there were worlds that operated on different principles from his own (that thing where most Earths didn't have a moon with breathable atmosphere was just *weird*, really) so he didn't offer a correction.

"I'd, uh. Probably need you to be the one wearing them, actually, so I could calibrate things correctly. I'm not precisely sure I can do that on my own."

He takes Liir's diagram and looks it over. "Crystals?" he asks, looking for confirmation of some of the key components.

"Mostly," he said, "though there's also a few metals involved. An iron outer shell, to keep out magical interference. A copper inner shell to keep other memories from seeping in. There would be a hole here where an emerald lens would increase the focus and the clarity of the memories you'd be recording, hooked to a moritanium channel, swiveled around a quartz crystal."

He pointed to the main crystal.

"That would be Lurlinite, with pieces of boric titanate on either side. And beneath, in this chamber, is a few chips of fizzelite that should keep up a charge as long as someone is moving around. When they're not, this panel here would pick up the body heat to power the device as only a small current is needed between the moritanium here and the chips of boric titanite for the device to work. There's also an admonite failsafe mechanism here, but I still haven't quite figured out how to trigger it properly."

"Cool," Bridge grins appreciatively. "Circuits and wires are really more my specialty, but this looks awesome." He hesitates a moment before adding. "And, uh. I don't even know if you'd *need* the help but, I mean, if you want assistance in testing it out I'd totally be up for that. It seems fair, since you offered to help me, and all."

He grinned.

"I didn't want to ask, but I'm going to need it. All of this is hypothetical until I have a prototype."

"It's a deal, then!" Bridge chirps, giving Liir a thumbs-up.

He nodded.

"When were you planning on making yours?"

"I've got a few more components I need to track down," Bridge admits. "And this week is sort of, with Valentine's, and the dance, and I've got an anniversary on Wednesday, I'm probably not going to get started til the weekend at least,"

He blushed a little. Andrew had said yes, after all.

"That sounds reasonable."
