Applied Inventiontronics, Perid 4 - Week 6

Glitch was at the front of the class again today, and on each desk were a few sheets of clean, un-lined paper and two pencils.

"Today, you're going to be working on the look of your inventions. For the first half of the class, I want you to sketch out a design. It doesn't have to be too detailed, but, the idea is that you'll get a feel for how it will all come together and look when it's done. Remember things like functionality and overall aesthetic appeal."

He smiled reassuringly at them, because this next part he was afraid they wouldn't really like.

"The second half of class, you'll be showing your sketches to your classmates and critiquing each other." There was a stern look before he continued with, "Nicely, please."

A moment, then, as he looked at them a bit expectantly before he realized he hadn't told them yet to begin.

"Oh, uhm, right. Go ahead. Begin!"

He nodded.

"Just, er, if you'd care to go to the dance. The one for the holiday." He offered a smile.

"I was considering buying tickets, but I didn't want to until I knew you wanted to. I don't dance much, but I'm not half bad. And it seems to be a holiday for, um."

He gave Andrew's hand a squeeze and ran his thumb over the skin of his wrist in a light circle.

"You're asking me to a dance." It wasn't a question, and Andrew sounded slightly dazed.

"I would love to go with you," he said, nodding rapidly.

He beamed.

"I'll make sure to get tickets today then."

Andrew fulled Liir's hand up and placed a quick kiss on the back of it. "Thank you," he said.

"So did you do anything fun yesterday?" He had listened to radio, but it, as usual when you're actually listening with intent, was pretty vague.

Nothing fun, he concluded to himself as he shook his head.

"Mostly, I went around talking to people about things," he admitted. "And I had my morning lesson with Ino and then the Host Club. We danced there a little, but mostly I was nervous the whole time before Teddy and I talked for a bit. We're all right now."

He thought about it.

"Well, the lesson with Ino was fun, other than making her nervous."

Andrew fixated on one thing. "So things are good between you and Teddy?" he asked, wanting to be sure.

He had been really worried about that. He had partly talked himself into going to see Teddy, but he couldn't quite get over the fear that he would just be making things worse.

"He's settled. And we're, uh, I think the word's supposed to be 'cool'."

He looked over at Andrew.

"What about you? What was your day like? I didn't get to listen to the radio last night."

"I didn't really do much of anything," Andrew admitted.

"I spent some time working on some handouts for the language club, tried to work out some of the lift calculations for my invention, caught up on some reading, thought about you..."

He smiled at that last bit.

He rolled his eyes at Andrew.

"You could have come by, you know. You're always welcome in my room. I just don't like to monopolize your time. Well, I like to, I just don't think I should."

"Well, I know how important you are -- man about campus and all that," Andrew teased. "I don't want to horde you. I mean, you've got all these friends, belong to all these clubs, do all these cool things. It just wouldn't be right."

While Liir would never say such a thing (aloud), he does, in fact give a look to Andrew which could be classified as 'have you recently taken some manner of recreational substances?'

"'Do all these cool things'?" he started with. It seemed the most ridiculous of the bunch as he had signed up to quite a few clubs and 'all these friends' might be incendiary. But really, he just liked to be busy.

"Well, it's not like I can blame people for wanting to hang out with you," he continued. "You are crazy attractive, oh so charming, and smart to boot."

Re: First half of class (2/11)

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
...the look was not going away. In fact, it seemed to have become slightly more incredulous with a dash of 'Liir in the headlights' for flavor.

He couldn't even speak because what could you say to something like that? 'No' would be a bit harsh, especially towards Andrew. 'Thank you' might seem to say he accepted what Andrew had said but--

What?

Andrew caught sight of the look and laughed. "You really don't take compliments well," he said. On one hand, he thought it was sweet. On the other, it hurt that Liir didn't seem to think it was true.

"I'm not taking it back," he added.

"I just don't know what to say," he admitted. "But you don't have to do anything you don't want to."

That was important. He could say that.

"In any case," he said, "I don't want you to worry about monopolizing my time. I think I've been pretty clear that you're welcome to it. All of it. As far as I'm concerned, you're pretty much always going to be my top priority."

He stilled then ever so slowly looked at Andrew.

His hand squeezed Andrew's.

His other hand held onto the broom to make sure it didn't move. And to make sure he didn't float right out of the chair.

"So you're going to come take up all my time tonight, yes?" he asked, smiling.

He nodded almost too fast.

"And I don't think I'll share," he said after a moment.

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"You don't have to share. It's kind of your right as the boyfriend," he said.

He wondered if Professor Ambrose would get upset if they sat there holding hands for the rest of class.

"It comes with rights?"

He looked pleased and couldn't help but pull Andrew's hand up for a kiss.

"Lucky me."

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"It comes with all kinds of perks," he said. "I'm not even sure what they all are, to be honest with you, but I have faith you'll figure them out over time."

Re: First half of class (2/11)

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure I will," though he looked up with a faintly guilty look. "After class, though."

[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Right, of course," Andrew agreed. "We should probably do like work or something now."

He flipped open his notebook and picked up a pin.

"Probably."

But he patted Andrew's knee before he got back to work.
