Ethics [Thursday, January 31]

When the Ethics class arrived in the Danger Shop, they stepped into an entirely different world.

An incredibly dry, hot one. That smelled really bad.

Anakin waved his hand around the room. "Welcome to the embodiment of gluttony," he said, "the palace of a Hutt."

He concentrated on the controls on the far side of the room, and the simulation sprung to life: dozens of beings drinking, eating, and dancing, with all activity centered around a vile slug of a beast laying on the raised dais at the front of the room.

In a place of honor on the wall was a man, face twisted in a silent scream but his features obscured beyond recognition, encased in silver. Anakin ignored it as he walked past to point at the creature on the dais. "That," he said, nose wrinkling in disgust, "is a Hutt. This particular version was named Jabba, one of the most powerful crime lords in the galaxy." A grim smile turned the corners of his mouth up. "At least until he met my children."

He shook his head. "That is neither here nor there. Today is an interactive experience for you, class. Take a good hard look around. See the effects that gluttony can have."

His eyes went flat. "Touch any of the dancing girls and you'll regret it. That's a promise."

Hoshi opted to explore on her own. The music was intriguing to her sensitive ears and she enjoyed picking out the melodies. She wasn't about to try the food, though. And after her experience over the weekend, she was staying very far away from the dancing girls, though she may have discreetly checked them out.

The live food had Reno wondering how drunk he would have to be to eat it in the first place.

Of course, if someone were to bet him that he couldn't do it, he'd probably make the attempt while still completely sober.

Wow, this places wasn't at all creepy...really.

Simulation or no, Jo really wished she had a shotgun right about now.

Amber began to walk around slowly, slightly in awe. A gross sort of oh my gosh this is terrible awe.

The heat, the smell, the fat ugly guy she was going to completely stay away from.

She gravitated towards the guy on the wall, just out of natural curiosity, and it made her wonder what he did to end up like that.

What Karal mostly felt, as he walked through the palace, was pity and a dull sort of horror. Yes, he knew this wasn't real, but all of this had been real. Vkandis watch over them, wherever and whenever they are now.

He stopped in front of the man on the wall, head bowed. And you, may He grant you peace.

Lana didn't really want to know much about this place. She carefully looked around, feeling massively uncomfortable the entire time.

The whole place was fascinating. Andrew had read about demon bars, even tried to find one of the ones rumored to exist in Sunnydale (unfortunately he had been unsuccessful), and this was pretty much exactly what he had imagined -- just with more enjoyable music.

"Cool," he said to himself, shoulders swaying in time with the beat.

Simulation or not, Wyatt didn't appreciate slavery, either. So he was definitely checking out the slave girls, noting how they were bound. If it was just chains and fear keeping them prisoner, well, those could be dealt with. If there was something else, well, that could be dealt with, too.

... and the sad thing was, except for the live food, the freakish slug thing and some of the sorrow in the girls' eyes, this wasn't too far off from a Verona Beach party. He might deny it, but Romeo felt more at home than his classmates as he roamed the palace.

The prisoner, though, still made him shudder.

Summer decided she really didn't like it here. She was definitely not going anywhere near...anything really.

Well, now. A good ol' Southern church wiener cookout, this ain't. Adah hung back idly, with occasional shifting around, half expecting Toorlexa Nebee to suddenly slide through the door; it seemed the type of place he'd call home. It also seemed the type of place countless diseases would be lurking, most of them probably ones she'd never even heard of it, and the fascination of these unseen dangers was more of an intrigue for her than any of the...colorful clientèle.

Rikku wandered, rubbing her arms against the cold that wasn't there. This place gave her the creeps.

Jenny kept finding her attention drawn back to the man encased in silver. She'd actually never quite seen anything like that before.

Harry was impressed with the whole setup. Harry was also sure that since this was some sort of wacky technology, something was going to go horribly wrong. So he was going to wander around until it did.

And now Harry was wondering if the fact that the dancing girls had started flickering and fading when he walked near them was going to get him into worlds of trouble with his teacher.

Harry looked guiltily over at Anakin.

"It just...happens. Technology doesn't like me. Or any wizards. But it really doesn't like me. Microwaves, TVs, computers, new cars, everything. I can go. I don't wanna break this."

[identity profile] harrydresden.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"You think?" Harry asked. "Usually it just pisses people off. Understandably, I guess, but still."

Re: Explore Jabba's palace

[identity profile] harrydresden.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"That would only end in tears," Harry said. "Tears and fiery explosions. You sure I'm not gonna do any permanent damage in here?"

"Good to know." Harry cracked a smile and took another long look around. "Cause, you know, this is just cool."
