Tactics 201, Thursday Period Two, 24/01

There was a series of very colorful expletives guiding Kerrigan into the Danger Shop this morning as she paced in a few minutes late. As far as she was concerned, this was a major crime against all things right with the world, but then so was the absence of a syllabus--

"Oh, to hell with it," she muttered, pressing two fingers to her forehead. "Hey, class. Today, we deal with defensive installations. As you can see, the sim's set up in your typical Badlands danger area. Your mission for today, and I don't care if you want to take it or not, is to find a partner and set yourself up a suitable bunker area to defend the base behind you. We'll look into the theoreticals next week."

Wait. Next week. Aly. Oh, crap. "...We'll look into the theoreticals two weeks from now. Right now, I'm just curious to see how many of you make it out alive." Beat. "Thank you, Booth."

She moved out of sight. Probably in the general direction of the coffee machine.

[ wait for the ocd up! ]

Jen glanced at the spot she was indicating, and nodded as she tried to adapt her old police training to the situation. "Good visibility, yeah, and that rock outcropping could be useful. Let's go."

Max made sure she had all the supplies she needed and then headed for the spot they had chosen.

Jen followed her to the designated spot and, once they were in place, took a good look at the terrain, mapping out the most likely paths invaders might take toward the base.

"Should we split up and keep watch from different vantage points?" Max suggested, seeing potential weak spots from both the north and south.

Jen nodded and sketched out two rough 180-degree arcs with her arm. "Which side do you want?"

"Either is fine by me," Max said. "Do you have a preference?"

Jen considered for a moment. "How are you at seeing things from a distance?"

One of the gifts Max had received in the genetic lottery was excellent eyesight. "I'm good," Max said.

"Better than average, would you say?" Jen asked out of casual interest as she took off her helmet to activate her visual scanners. Maybe whatever had made them fritz out when she'd first arrived had fixed itself. Couldn't hurt.

Max nodded. "Yeah, definitely."

She wasn't about to go into more details than that.

Probably just as well; it wouldn't sit too well with Jen these days.

"Great. Then you should probably get the long lookout, and I'll keep watch on the areas closer to the base."

"Works for me," Max said, jogging off to her assigned spot.
