How to Survive Your Own Cooking [Class 2]
"Today," Lulu began, after the class had come into the home ec room, "as it says on your syllabus, we're going to be studying breakfast foods. As it's still fairly early in the class, we'll focus on more basic foods -- if you'd like more advanced recipes, or even some extra instruction, feel free to see me after class and we can discuss it.
"One of the most basic breakfast foods is cold cereal -- generally, in this world at least, you buy it boxed, and simply add milk, potentially some form of sweetener, occasionally sliced fruit such as berries or bananas, or even eat it as is, straight from the box. Unfortunately for you all, you're not getting away with that today. If you'd like, you can attempt to make your own, but that's not required for today's class.
"One of the staples of breakfast -- although, indeed, it is a great food for any time, including snacks -- is the scrambled egg." Lulu demonstrated proper whisking behaviour, then took her students through the process of cooking the eggs so that they'd be able to recognise when their own were finished.
"Breakfast wouldn't be complete without bacon and toast," Lulu continued. "I will add that I added the toast 'recipe' today," and you could hear the airquotes, "because it amused me greatly -- but do try to follow it as best you can. It is helpful, for all that it seems to be frivolous.
"Your assignment today is to make a complete breakfast -- cereal, eggs, bacon, and toast. If you prefer not to make the homemade cereal, you may used boxed cereal, but everything else requires preparation.
"All of the recipes you need are at your stations. Pair up -- in different pairs than last week -- and cook away! Everything you need is available either in your stations, except for ingredients if you wish to make the cereal, or if you wish to make a variation on the scrambled eggs; for those, you can find themoddable ingredients here at the front of the class."
Lulu smiled. "As a drink, I recommend apple or orange juice, as they will help round out the meal. Coffee and hot chocolate, however, are also provided. You can find the drinks at the front of the room as well." She paused. "Feel free to drink them during the class as well."
[OCDwill be up in a few is up! I'm hungry now.]

"I'm sure you're good for more than that," he said quietly. "Come on, it's not hard. Help me mix at least?"
He looked at the ingredients.
"Rolled oats, almonds, cinnamon, and a little bit of cocoa," he said. "How does that sound?"

He put the almonds, the sugar, the cocoa, and the cinnamon in a bowl.
Re: Assignment: Are You a Cereal Killer?
"So the other stuff goes in that bowl, and the stuff in the pot goes in the pot." It wasn't much, but it was an attempt. "Is that because you don't want the stuff in the bowl to catch fire?"
Re: Assignment: Are You a Cereal Killer?
And he sliced the butter at the line for a half a cup before putting it in the pot and firing up the stove. He'd come a little earlier than even his usual for this class since he'd wanted to get a hang of the stoves.
"That way, it won't get burnt. Nothing should catch fire."
A pause.
"As for the monkeys, they're still no doubt flying around Kiamo Ko. If I should ever lose my mind and decide to return there, I'll be happy to show you just how interesting they are."
Re: Assignment: Are You a Cereal Killer?
"Don't worry about losing your mind. It's losing your heart that you wanna avoid."
Re: Assignment: Are You a Cereal Killer?
"As for the cooking, the reason you don't throw it in all at once is because some things only need a little cooking and others need more. If you put it all in, then you're cooking it all the same, which will burn the almonds and probably make the cinnamon taste like ash."

Next came the sugaralmondcinnamoncocoa mixture sprinkled on top.
Then he blinked.
"You live at a mauntery?"

"Right."
And he started moving around the food in the pot.

"It has to cool, but that'll give us time to work on the eggs (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1655346.html?thread=101004850#t101004850) and the bacon and the toast."
The toast would be easy. He was well trained in the ways of toast. The Witch had been particular about some things.
