How to Survive Your Own Cooking [Class 2]

"Today," Lulu began, after the class had come into the home ec room, "as it says on your syllabus, we're going to be studying breakfast foods. As it's still fairly early in the class, we'll focus on more basic foods -- if you'd like more advanced recipes, or even some extra instruction, feel free to see me after class and we can discuss it.

"One of the most basic breakfast foods is cold cereal -- generally, in this world at least, you buy it boxed, and simply add milk, potentially some form of sweetener, occasionally sliced fruit such as berries or bananas, or even eat it as is, straight from the box. Unfortunately for you all, you're not getting away with that today. If you'd like, you can attempt to make your own, but that's not required for today's class.

"One of the staples of breakfast -- although, indeed, it is a great food for any time, including snacks -- is the scrambled egg." Lulu demonstrated proper whisking behaviour, then took her students through the process of cooking the eggs so that they'd be able to recognise when their own were finished.

"Breakfast wouldn't be complete without bacon and toast," Lulu continued. "I will add that I added the toast 'recipe' today," and you could hear the airquotes, "because it amused me greatly -- but do try to follow it as best you can. It is helpful, for all that it seems to be frivolous.

"Your assignment today is to make a complete breakfast -- cereal, eggs, bacon, and toast. If you prefer not to make the homemade cereal, you may used boxed cereal, but everything else requires preparation.

"All of the recipes you need are at your stations. Pair up -- in different pairs than last week -- and cook away! Everything you need is available either in your stations, except for ingredients if you wish to make the cereal, or if you wish to make a variation on the scrambled eggs; for those, you can find the moddable ingredients here at the front of the class."

Lulu smiled. "As a drink, I recommend apple or orange juice, as they will help round out the meal. Coffee and hot chocolate, however, are also provided. You can find the drinks at the front of the room as well." She paused. "Feel free to drink them during the class as well."

[OCD will be up in a few is up! I'm hungry now.]

Oh man. It involved a stove. Oh man. Demyx eyed the cook surface warily, edging a little in the direction of the exit.

"It won't eat you," he said with a faint smile. "These aren't even the kind you need to load with wood or coal."

"You don't understand," Demyx told him nervously. "I burn things. Then I catch fire, and bad things happen." It had happened. It could happen again!

He looked skeptical but shrugged nonetheless.

"Well, the point would be to learn how not to burn things. It's really not too hard. Being nervous just makes it more likely."

Well. Makoto, in his girl-guise, looked dubiously at the stove. This would certainly be harder than last week's lesson. Maybe his partner would be able to keep them from disaster?

Unfortunately for Makoto, Cassandra picked him out as her partner hoping that he would help save her from disaster.

He smiled at girl, "Cassandra, right? I don't suppose you know your way around a kitchen?"

"I know how to use a knife," she offered. "And I know what eggs look like." Nope... not very helpful.

Shawn wasn't too worried yet. At least they'd been given recipes to follow. This couldn't be that hard.

"Hey, Shawn," Chad lifted his chin in greeting. "Need a partner?"

Shawn nodded an acknowledgment back. "Sure do," he replied. He smiled at Chad. "You chock full of breakfast cooking know-how, by any chance?"

There was a slight undertone of pink under Chad's dark complexion as he muttered, "A little..." He was remembering Miss Lulu's comment about him possibly being a little too self-sufficient in cooking for this class, because he could probably do most of this in his sleep. Although there was still the cereal. Which was baffling him because he'd never really thought about the fact that, yeah, someone makes cereal somehow, after all...

Mikey stared at the breakfast foods.

Cereal made sense. When dumped onto pizza.

Anything made sense when dumped onto pizza.

This? This didn't involve pizza. There was no sense to be had, here.

[Funky availability heads-up. Not gonna be here through the afternoon and evening for work!]

Carmela pouts a bit at the instruction to find a different partner. After all, she and Mikey had accomplished an awesome breakfast *last* week, when that hadn't even been the topic of the class. Oh well. She looks around for someone to partner up with.

[ooc: and I've got an hour or so before I disappear until evening.]

Aha! A pretty lady who needed a cooking partner? Tamaki was so there. He swept over to her station and smiled hopefully. "Shall we attempt a breakfast? I've never cooked anything, so I can't guarantee that the food will be of any reasonable quality; however, I can offer you good company," he said with a grin.

He'd had a lot of fun making salad with Demyx, but he was only too happy to meet new people!

Oooh, cute boy. Carmela grins right back. "Good company and the *possibility* of breakfast? How can I refuse?"

[ooc: Perfect! She says, before she must yet again flee from the computer.]

His grin only widened. "Wonderful! Where shall we start, then, miss..." he trailed off, realizing he hadn't learned her name yet.

Sam was a little nervous about having to use appliances, but he figured that the whole point of being here was to learn how to notburn things. Hopefully, his partner would be a little more skilled than he was.

Jenny? Yeah, not so much with the skilled with appliances thing. "Look," she said to Sam as she sidled up next to him, "as long as I don't set anything on fire, I figure we're coming out ahead."

Sam laughed. "I'll try to keep you from burning anything up if you do the same for me."

Summer glanced nervously from the breakfast foods to the oven and back again. She kind of feared this assignment.
