Sneaky Spycraft - Week 1, Period 4

Aly was in the classroom early so she got to study each student as he or she came in.  She smiled and gave a word of greeting to those she'd known in the past and a nod to the new students, watching all of them curiously.

Once everyone arrived, she stood up finally with a quick grin.  "Morning to all of you," she said, surveying the classroom.  "I'm Aly, and this is Spycraft...blah, blah, blah.  Don't ask me where the class name came from.  I think Hades got a hold of my submittal form."  He hadn't.  "If you didn't sign up for this class, cooking is later.  Go talk to Lulu, maybe she'll let you in."

Aly leaned against the desk and looked amused.  "Or you can stay and we'll talk about how to be sneaky all semester.  We're going to cover a lot of topics: poisons, codes, weapons, actual spycraft, and we're going to move pretty quickly most of the time so if there's anything you specifically are curious about?  Let me know.  If you're confused or ethically uncomfortable?  Bring it up.  I want to see all of you thinking about this stuff.  Not just mimicking the lessons."

"If you didn't catch it before, my name's Aly.  Alianne if you need to be formal.  Professor or duani if you really think that's necessary.  Call me Miss Aly though, and I won't listen."  She shuddered.  "It just sounds bad."

"Today, we're going to do that bane of first classes and do introductions.  Why?  I like listening to you guys talk more than I like lecturing.  So.  Please tell me who you are - even if I already know - why you wanted to take this class and what you hope to learn, annnd ask me one question."  Aly flashed them a quick grin.  "Yes, I'll answer it, and yes, the question's a test if anyone's wondering."

She glanced down at her attendance sheet and picked two names as if at random.  "Zuko and Teddy, can you two see me after class?"

[OOC:  OCD is coming up!  My internets were flickering mostly out last night so if I go quiet for a while, that's probably why.  *eyes them warily and prepares the duct tape*]

Your name, why you're taking this class, what you want to get out of it, and a question for Aly.

She'll totally answer it, and she's serious that it's a test to see how everyone's brains work.

"I'm Jenny Sparks, I think my legal guardian signed me up for this class, probably because he thinks he's funny, but if I can just get one piece of useful information I didn't know before out of it, I need all the help I can get in my profession. Which is. Er. Superheroics. God, that sounds stupid. I guess my question is, what makes you qualified to teach us this? And I actually have a second, logistical qustion: May I smoke in this class?"

She looked amused but not overly so. "Around here? Not entirely stupid. Least you're not wearing brightly coloured pajamas about it. As for my qualifications, I was trained by my country's spymasters since I was very small. When I was sixteen, I was brought into another country and wound up enmeshed in a rebellion against a rather corrupt regime, trained a pack of spies and ended up as the spymaster to the new Queen. Who I've served as such for seven or so years now." She grinned. "And you may only smoke if we're talking about that's part of your powers and not cigarettes."

"My name is Ami Mizuno. And i am taking this class because... well, somewhat recently i discovered that i may have need of being sneaky and spying. Since what i am mainly good at is studying, i am hoping this class will help me with some practical applications." She paused to think of a good question. "Under what circumstances do you believe spying on others and therefore invading their privacy is appropriate or even desired slash necessary?"

"When you need to know something they know and they won't tell it to you is generally my baseline," Aly said with a quick grin. "But I've been told I've an odd view of that." She tilted her head towards Ami. "It's good to meet you, Ami. What need have you discovered?"

"I'm Yamanaka Ino, and I signed up because this class sounded both really fun and useful uh, well, ninja can always use more sneaky right? I want come out of this class with more knowledge than I came in with." Ino thought about what to ask for a moment, "Aly-san? How can we trust that you won't purposefully mislead us?"

"My name is Triela. I'm pretty sure Hillshire signed me up for this class because he thinks I rely too much on the fact that I look harmless for infiltration missions." Her tone suggested that she thought he was probably right.

"Why do you do what you do? What motivates you?"

"My name is Willow Rosenberg," Willow said. "I'm here because spying is all kinds of fun with codes and sneakiness, yet is also very useful in the sense that sometimes you need to get information without, as for example, being killed. Which all goes under the bigger goal of trying to defeat bad guys or girls or bad people of indeterminate gender. Plus secret hand gestures are always cool.

"As for my question: how does one get an A++ in this class?"

"Ohaiyo!" She wiggled her fingers at the class in a half-wave, grinning. "I'm Dōjima Yurika, you call me Dōjima 'cause I won't answer to Yurika. I'm here because if my parents are going to ship me to America to go to school with heathens just because of a few pictures, I'm going to take at least one class guaranteed to piss them off."

"My question is this; sensei, think of one time a mission went absolutely totally balls-up wrong. Why did it happen?" Dōjima leaned back in her seat, still grinning. "I mean, I'm guessing that if you're teaching spying you've been spying, but if not I can come up with a different question."

"I used to grab professionally so I thought taking a class on being sneaky would be a rocketship way to get a good grade. My question is how many classes can I skip and still get a passing grade?"

"I'm Sokka, and I'm here because you're awesome, I want to learn how to be sneaky, and I like blowing things up."

He thought for a moment.

"My question is... Are you sneaky-on-the-side-of-good, or do I have to get my cognitive dissonance on like I do for Sifu Deadpool?"

"I'm Isabel Evans and I'm taking this class because you never know what's going to be useful later on in life." Although hopefully that part of her life was over. "Also because it's my last semester here and I want to have interesting classes. Next fall I'll be taking normal boring classes like economics and calculus."

"As for my question, how's the family?" Which Isabel hoped Aly would understand to mean, how's your mom.

"I'm Eve, I'm taking this class because I have a very odd definition of what constitutes 'fun' and as for a question..." She frowned for a second. "Let's go with, how the hell do you know that freaky Kool-Aid pitcher guy and is he going to be making any appearances this semester?"

"I'm Anders. I'm in this class because I can't not take a class from my favorite teacher ever in my last semester here, can I?" No, Anders was occasionally not above a little bit of sucking up or flattery, complete with a (he flattered himself) charming smile. "But that's not my question. My question is, how do you think battle tactics would change if this was a world with trained dragons in the military?"

Someone had too much ice cream before bed last night, apparently.

"Aravis," she said with a little wave. "It's important to know how these sorts of skills, really. I'm good at being sneaky, yet feel I could be better."

She paused. "Have you ever killed anyone?"

"I'm Bitterwoman," Seely said with an expression like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. "I have no idea why I'm in this class. Do you think this outfit makes me look fat?"

So maybe he hadn't recovered from his Religion class as much as he'd thought.

"My name is Seregil i Korit Solun Meringill Bokthersa," he paused for a moment with a wry look, by now knowing the reactions his full name tended to elicit. "I am taking this class because a dear friend suggested that this might be the perfect life's work for me. I think he may be right. As for my question," he regarded her for a moment, "where do your own allegiances lie?"

Strange how Zuko only seemed to be looking at Aly. "I'm Zuko," he spoke up. "I'm... here to learn." Considering the audience, he decided the rest of it was probably not said. He paused, trying to think of a question to ask back. "Why spying?"

"Teddy Altman, it's good to know these things for the future, um... a better understanding of if people try to kill me with this stuff?" He bit his lip, trying to think of a question.

"Are you really friends with Deadpool?"

"My name is Billy, I'm taking this class because, much as I wish I could avoid it, someone like me needs to know these things back on my world. Did you get into spying on purpose or did you kinda fall into it?"

"My name is Coraline Jones," she said, then just to be on the safe side, added, "Coraline, not Caroline. I chose this class because I want to learn how to be sneaky and spy on things without those things catching me. Not getting caught is very important."

If she only got one question, Coraline thought, she'd better make it a good one. "Will you teach us how to find out if something is dangerous, like a door, for example, before you go through it?"

Luke gave her a bright smile. "I'm Luke Skywalker and I'm taking this class because sometime knocking on the front door and asking politely doesn't work. A Jedi needs to be prepared for all contigencies. I'm hoping to get better at blending into the background." He laced his fingers together. "My question for you is, what's the toughest corner you've ever backed yourself into, and how'd you get out of it?"

"I'm Inara Serra, and I'm here because I want to learn what you have to teach, for reasons that I'm not prepared to divulge in public but that you already know about," she said, not trying to be offensive, but also not about to tell a room full of people that she wanted to spy against the Alliance. "My question is whether or not you get tired of the lying, of always having to put up a facade for other people?"

"Yakushi Kabuto," Kabuto said, flicking silver hair out of his face. "I'm a ninja, mainly focusing in the area of espionage, so really, it makes sense for me to take as many spy-related classes as I can. It never hurts to get someone else's prespective on things." He paused, thinking of something to ask her. "What is your favorite method for getting your enemies out of the way if you have to sneak into somewhere that's being guarded?"

"My name is Haku. I'm in this class to better my skills as a ninja as one can never stop learning. I hope that because Aly has a different way of doing things that I do at home that I will learn something to take back with me." He paused cutely to think a moment.

"How long have you had to perfect your spy craft?"
