Study Hall, Monday, January 7

After his stop in the teacher's lounge, Fraser made his way to the classroom and opened it up for the semester's first study hall.

He took a seat at the desk with some leftover paperwork and proceeded to ignore it for the most part. Paperwork was boring.

[OCD going is up!]

Wearing a certain bright yellow shirt, Aly made her way into Study Hall to find a certain Mountie. "What do you think? Is it the right colour for me?" she teased, grinning widely.

"You say hobby like it's a bad thing," Aly laughed, pirouetting for him. "Thank you very much. I should have brought your present with me."

"Got something for Dief too," Aly laughed. "He might not think it's as funny as I do."

"You only got Dief a bone for Christmas?" Aly asked. "Poor thing. It's a wonder he hasn't tried to suffocate you in your sleep." She winked teasingly. "I had a wonderful Christmas, yes. Spent it with Wade and Arashi and exchanged shiny new weapons. You?"

Just because Amber didn't have any classes today, didn't mean she couldn't take some quiet time for herself and sit and study. She was currently going over the FH handbook, her headphones on and kept at minimal low.

Romeo didn't have any classes either, and he supposed study hall was a good introduction to this whole "school" thing. Looking up from his book of John Donne's poetry, he leaned over to talk to Amber. "What music is that?"

She raised her brows and smiled, taking off her headphones and holding them out if he wanted to check them out. Christina Aguilera's 'Genie in a Bottle' was currently playing. "It's current, where I'm from anyways. Oh, and hi! I'm Amber Atkins."

Romeo took one earphone and put it in with an eyebrow raise and half-smile. "I know it," he said after a moment. "Several years have passed since it was current here, I believe. I had heard there was time travel here, but you are the first such transplant I have met."

He handed the earphones back to Amber. "I am Romeo Montague, recently come to Fandom from Verona Beach."

Transplant? That was kind of funny and Amber laughed lightly. "I'm from 1999 and I learned the other day that we are in 2008," she said, shrugging. "I'm kinda behind the times but I plan on catchin' up just as quick as I can."

She took them and set them aside. "Pleasure to meet you Romeo Montague. Where exactly is Verona Beach?"

"Little enough has happened," Romeo said. "Elections and wars, but so it always is."

He ran a hand through his hair. "It is on the ocean, not far from Los Angeles. Where is your home?"

Amber rested her chin in her palm and gave him a thoughtful look. He sure spoke different.

"Ooo, California? I've always wanted to go there. I'm from Mount Rose, Minnesota. Just a small town where everyone knows everyone elses business."

Romeo nearly matched her posture, putting his chin on his crossed arms.

"My town, though larger, is much the same," he mused. "Gossips, with their clack-clack-clack tongues, talk so fast they are like to wear those tongues out. Especially if one's family is a frequent subject."

Amber went over his words again in her head before she thought to respond to him. "In my town? Everyone talks so slow one is understandin' what's comin' out of one's mouth before they quite get through the second sentence." 'Course Amber spoke pretty much in the same way, she just didn't recognize it like that.

"Is your family a favorite discussion around the dinner table, Romeo?"

"I am not yet used to how differently people speak here," Romeo half-explained, turning pink. "And you have found me out. Tell me honest, you had not heard of the Montagues and Capulets ere you came here?" His tone made it clear he found this somewhat inconceivable.

Aw, he was cute, Amber thought with a grin as she stared at him. His blush was very attractive. "Basically, I think we all pretty much talk the same, some of us just have a bit more of a... structure to our words. At least we can understand each other and I'm thinkin' that's what's important," Amber said. "Montagues and Capulets," she repeated, pondering the names a moment. "Kinda sounds familiar... but I can't be certain. I hear and read a lot."

[ooc: Wasn't sure if Amber should know of Romeo and Juliet or not :D.]

"sometimes tales of us, mostly lies, are in magazines," Romeo said. "Nothing of any import."

[OOC: Nope, but they're both incredibly rich, have been fighting for years, and in his canon they make TV news, so I assume they might be known on a sort of Kim Kardashian level.]

Amber shook her head. "That's terrible. You wish people could just mind their own business sometimes, don't you. Take me for instance, my family has been on the news too much lately and by family I just mean me, my ma, and Loretta. See, I'm kinda hidin' from someone who wants to kill me. What kinda lies people tellin' about you and your family, Romeo," Amber asked. "If you want to talk about it that is."

Romeo leaned his head to one side, considering how to phrase it. "They make it sound as if our lives have far more glamour and far less sorrow than they do," he said. "There was some tragedy last summer -- lives lost -- and they took glee in it. What is it for your family?"

Re: Third Period

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
The word sorrow was always such a sad word to Amber. Her expression softened and she moved her hand from her chin, instead folding her arms across the desk, peering at him with compassion in her eyes. "I'm sorry for your tragedy, Romeo. It's always such a shame when lives are lost. Hard to imagine anyone ever takin' glee in the death of others." 'Course it didn't bother Amber too much that Becky Leeman was blown up riding a swan float.

"I was blamed for the death of another girl. Her ma took a shotgun after me and was arrested for it, but it would seem she has escaped and the law is lookin' for her."

"I thank you," Romeo said softly, tilting his chin up for a better view of Amber. "And fie on the mother, then. She shall have her reward someday, but mayhap not at the hands of man."

[OOC: Heading off for the night, but this was fun!]

She nodded, smiling gently. "She will. I know she will."
