"Actually no, I've been going here for almost two years now. I'm Billy." He held out his hand.

"Kara," Kara said, holding out her hand. "Kara Kent. It's nice to meet you."

"Likewise Kara." He shook her hand. "How's it look so far?"

"First impression? Weirder than I thought it would be. But beyond that? I think I might actually have fun this semester." Kara took a sip of her cherry cola. "What about you? Do you like it here, or are you just staying here because you have to?"

"Oh I love it here." he grinned. "When I first arrived, I didn't think I could handle it. In fact I almost left. But when I did I turned into a bearded dragon for a week, and that kind of took the wind out of my sails. So yeah, weird is a good word for this place. But you get used to it."

Kara's eyes widen.

Mental flail.

"A...bearded dragon?"

"Yeah, I think it was this amulet I found under my bed. But it was gone by the time I changed back. It was a little strange."

"I'm sure it was." Kara studied him for a moment. "Though you seem to have coped with that well."

"Well it was over a year ago now. I've had time to get over it. But that's the sort of things that happen here. Or say, monster invastions that last about a weekend, fun time things that turn us into little kids, stuff like that."

How on Earth...or on Krypton...did Clark think this place was normal?!

"Guess you don't need just meteor rocks for crazy, happy fun." She said idly. She looked Billy over before asking, "So what's your story?"

"Meteor rocks? Well the short version is that my father and I really didn't see eye to eye on life, so I'm here to kinda sorta hide from him. How about you?"

"I come from a weird place," she nodded. "So my cousin, umm, sent me here to keep me safe. Sort of. Which is ironic, because this place? Not sounding so very safe." She said this brightly and perkily, as if it didn't really bother her - which it didn't.

"Well it has it's more exciting moments. But one of the weird things? I actually feel safer here than you'd think. Even with Trolls, or homicidal zombie Goalies or somesuch. Maybe it's all the kids with super powers."

Kara chuckled.

"I'm hearing that there's a few more of those this semester, amongst the new students. Should be interesting."

"One thing I can say for certain, expect the unexpected, and anyone that tries to mess with the people on this island, learn that it's a really bad idea."

Kara cocked her head at Billy. "What do you mean? Because of all the superpowered students, or because the island has some sort of special self-defense that I have yet to learn about?"

"All the superpowered students. And teachers. And townies. And folks like me who don't have super powers, but do have special skills."

Kara nodded, taking it all in. The information was definitely helpful.

So was talking to the cute boy.

"What would those special skills be?" she asked, her voice taking on a very slight flirty tone.

He didn't miss the tone. "~~Bow hunting skillz, computer hacking skillz~~I'm pretty well trained in martial arts, which I found out can also be used for dancing. Also I got a lot of military type knowledge when I was growing up."

"My dad was in the military for awhile," Kara said off-handedly. "Sounds like you have a nice set of skills. We should maybe test out the dancing ones some time." She grinned at him.

"I'd like that." he grinned back. "It's always good to keep in practice. Do you dance much?"

"I've...done my fair share of dancing." Though Rao knows if dancing on Krypton and Earth are at all alike. She gave him an easy, flirty smile anyway. "I'm in room two-ten, Billy. Look me up."

"I'll do that. It was very nice to meet you Kara."

"It was good meeting you too, Billy."
