Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Alex had grabbed a drink and looked around at all the people gathered. Maybe, this wouldn't be so bad. After all, she had seen some cute boys scattered about.

"Hey," Dean said, centering in on the pretty new girl standing alone. "I'm Dean."

"Hi," Alex smiled warmly. Dean was cute. She was definitely liking Fandom more and more. "I'm Alex."

"Nice to meet you, Alex," Dean said. "So how are you liking it here so far?"

"You too, Dean," Alex meant it, too. Oh, wait until she told Harper about this place. "So far so good," she admitted. "Nothing like back home, but I think I'll be okay."

"I don't think this place is like back home for anybody," Dean said, chuckling. "Where's home for you?"

"No, I guess not," Alex shrugged, not thinking there was anything to that statement. "Brooklyn, New York," she answered. "I'm kind of missing it all ready, to tell you the truth."

"New York's cool," Dean said. "Um, what year?"

"It is, yeah," Alex agreed. "2008." She found that to be a slightly odd question, but whatever.

"You're probably going to get asked that again," Dean told her. "Not everyone here is from this time."

"Oh," Alex blinked. "Seriously?!"

Hey, she was a wizard, so it could be possible but the school seemed so... normal. So, cue her shocked face.

Dean nodded. "Seriously. It's only 1999 where I'm from, for example."

"Oh wow," Alex couldn't really imagine what that was like. "How was it adjusting?"

Billy wandered by, smirking slightly to himself, and waved a greeting to the new girl.

Alex noticed him and waved back, definitely liking this school a lot more then when she'd first been told about it.

"Welcome to Fandom." he said. "Has anyone warned you about the Gremlins yet?"

"Thank you," Alex grinned. "I'm Alex, by the way. Uh, gremlins?" Yeah, that probably answered his question.

"Pleased to meet you Alex, I'm Billy. Yes, Gremlins. They're small green creatures that like dark corners, and their venom is a very strong hallucinogen. They bite if startled."

Billy had never actually seen one himself.

"You too, Billy," Alex smiled warmly. "They really exist?" That was kind of strange. No, it was very strange.

"You have a nice smile." he told her. "And yes they really do. I personally have never seen one, but I know plenty of people who have and wound up spending a few hours thinking they were someone else. If you ask around I'm sure there's video taped evidence."

"Thank you," Alex replied. She wasn't used to guys being so forward. "Oh, well then I'll keep an eye out for them. Oh yeah? Now I want to see it," she admitted.

Billy wasn't usually this forward either. But he'd been single for a while. "I'm not sure specifically who to ask, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. Also I don't know what year it was when you left home, but here it's 2008."

"I'll definitely ask around then," Alex grinned, intent on doing so. "I'm from 2008, yep. A couple other people told me about the different years and what not."

"Yeah when I first got here it was 1997 when I left. Then while I was gone, time back home caught up to here."

"Oh wow," Alex was somewhat surprised by that. "Well, that's good that everything synced up."
