Karal tried to hide inside his robes. Which didn't really work very well, so he buried his face in his hands. "Glory, I am so sorry," he said, muffled though it was. "I thought they were fine!"

Altra looked between them and started to snicker.

"You thought a lot of things were fine that night," Gavin laughed. "You were really happy."

He went beet red and tried to hide in his robes again. "Oh, Sunlord," he groaned. "I remember being very happy. And you shook my head around to hear the people singing!"

"And I hadn't even eaten a brownie yet," Gavin pointed out. "That was just me having fun!"

He peeked out at Gavin while Altra wound around Gavin's legs, clearly wanting to be patted. And posibly to join in the laughing at Karal.

"Was I very bad?" he asked, the very picture of sheepishness.

"Hey, Altra," Gavin said, crouching down to stroke his fur. "And no, you weren't. Seely and I stared at lights. For a long time. And then held hands or almost held hands or something."

Altra purred happily, pressing against Gavin's hand, while Karal went even redder and mumbled something that sounded like, "Iwokeuptryingtocuddleaboy."

Some day he'd learn not to automatically tell Gavin everything. Today was not that day.

Gavin frowned, tried to speak, frowned again and said, "Slow that down so I can understand you?"

He sighed and stopped trying to hide. "I woke up trying to cuddle Andrew," he said, slower and also much, much quieter. "And I think I sent John on a quest to find the mouse gods."

"Ohhhh," Gavin said, standing up and almost smiling. "Did he cuddle you back?"

Altra snickered again. "No! It was," he flailed, "just, I was asleep! And I hit my head when I woke up." Karal rubbed the back of his head. "It was quite embarrassing."

"So, he was mad at you?" Gavin asked.

Karal blushed. Again. "No, no he wasn't. I made tea, and everything was fine." He folded his arms and fixed Gavin with a mock-scowl. "And it never would have happened if I wasn't cuddle deprived!"

"Hey, you went and got your cuddles from somewhere else," Gavin said, frowning. "How do you think that makes me feel?"

"The same way you felt before! Unwilling to give me cuddles," he laughed, dropping to sit on a nearby bench. "In all seriousness, you recovered from the odd brownies? There was no harm done?"

"I woke up feeling kind of fuzzy headed but no, I'm fine," Gavin assured him. "And I'm comforted by the fact that Seely really liked my hands and you like leaning on me."

Karal put his face back in his hands. "As long as you were comforted," he said, laughing again, though this time it was tinged with more than a little embarrassment. "I simply knew you were the best person to lean on, but I cannot explain Seely's interest in your hands."

"Well, my hands are nice," he said and waved them at Karal. "Were you okay when you woke up the next morning?"

"Just fuzziness and, yes, embarrassment." He shook his head and grinned up at Gavin. "But it was at least an entertaining way to spend an evening. I've never felt like ever in my life."

"What the kriff was wrong with those brownies?" Gavin asked. "Were they magical or something?"

"Maybe they were made from gremlins?" Karal ventured, not thinking it very likely. Or at least, he hoped it wasn't. "Or maybe they were made by gremlins!"

"If they were made from gremlins, I'm going to shave your head," Gavin said and started making faces.

"Truly?" he asked. "You're going to shave my head?" He looked very amused at the idea. "Not that I believe they were made from gremlins, but I don't think you would."

"I'm so going to shave your head," Gavin deadpanned. "It'll help the singing people in your head be heard."
