Library [Sunday, December 23]

With classes over, there's not much left for Lee to do except spin around in his chair, read the same page over and over again due to distraction and try to figure out what he was going to do with all the free time coming up. Definitely not going home. That'd just be a disaster. Maybe he'd just sleep. And sleep some more.

The library was open.

Adah up early enough for it to still be considered morning on a Sunday was becoming mostly unheard of, but she did have a train to catch and a slight detour into the library before the long limp to the causeway. Chair spinning again. She was grateful for the chair spinning, though, because it gave her the chance to get to the desk without the Eel realizing, thunking her suitcase onto it. This was partially because she wasn't going to carry it if she didn't have to and partially to get his attention, although her words would do that, too.

"I really hope that one day, when I come in and you're doing that, my timing is just right to see you make yourself sick and puke all over the place."

"It's always the things you don't expect that get you, though," Adah pointed out and then got right to the point with a sigh, drumming her fingers on her small suitcase. "I'll be gone for a week; visiting my mother, because she'll need it. I haven't got a lot of time before I need to start heading to the causeway to catch my cab. I thought I should stop by and mention it since I was passing by." She shrugged her shoulder, in her desperate attempt to seem utterly apathetic about the whole thing.

Adah's lower lip disappeared under her teeth for a moment, her eyes drifting a little downward. That was it, then. Have a nice trip, see you when you get back, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. Which she expected, really. It was just a weeklong trip home, no big deal, and it was entirely what she expected, but that didn't stop her from ho-- See, that's what got you. Hope and ridiculous notions like it that counterbalanced perfectly good logic and common sense. She gave a small, jerky nod of her head. "Right. I will. I should let you get back to your spinning, building up that stomach. It's a long walk." She paused, bobbed her head a little. "For me anyway."

"Maybe it's a good thing I'll be gone for a week," Adah said, after a small moment of staring at the response she'd just talked herself into thinking wouldn't happen, "because then you'll have no shirts left at this rate."

She was still deciding, though, on both offers. Neither one of them really matched up with how she told herself she was going to handle this, but, then again, how she told herself she was going to handle this was not exactly lining up with what she'd like.

Adah narrowed her eyes skeptically at the Eel as she tried to ignore the fact that she was blushing in her failed attempts to forget about the fact that the stolen shirt already in her possession was stowed away in the suitcase already. "That's a lot of shirts," she pointed out. "Why would anyone have that many shirts, anyway, unless they intended to give them often all along?"

Yes, she was a stubborn person, and stubborn people had stubborn emotions. She had been set on being brooding after this and decided to try to cling to it in defiance of the fact that it was sharply turning the other way. It was easier to be disappointed than it was to be happy, after all; that was what she was used to.

"Did you?" Adah asked, skeptical eyebrow quirked, as well as her grin.

Adah sighed, shaking her head. "I suppose another experiment in the works, then," she bemoaned lightly with no small amount of exaggeration. "Either that, or look into hiring one of the many ninjas attending this school to break into your room and investigate. Luckily, I have no money, so I suppose I'll just have to continue taking the shirt off your back."

"Tease," Adah accused, and looped her fingers around the handle of her suitcase. "I could just leave right now, you know. That would give me time to stop by the Perk for some tea on my way out."

"You," Adah countered, "should stay here. I'm already a bad enough influence on your ability to be a proper library aide without leading you astray like a pied piper of half-nudity. If you follow me, I'll ignore you. Shirtlessness or no."

Note that she wasn't moving anywhere; she didn't trust herself to actually go through with that bluff.

Then Adah would probably end up missing her train.

"Ignore you," she lied with a confident lift of her shoulder. "I'm very stubborn, you know, and can do anything if I set my mind to it."

"I've beaten paralysis and a dead brain," Adah reminded him, with a tilt of her head, to see if he really wanted to challenge whether he was stronger than those. Which, really, he was. Because paralysis and a dead brain didn't have nice arms and an adorable smile.

"Or," Adah offered, "I could end up supplying my own thoughts on what you might have been doing which could turn out much better than the reality of it."

"You are just..." Adah drew in a breath, trying to seem indignant with a blushingly amused expression on her face, "...absolutely intent on making me miss that train, aren't you?"

"At the moment?" Adah asked, tilting her head and giving him a warning look that suggested that she didn't approve of the situation. "No."

In her head? Admittedly? By the pink her cheeks, a lot more than just his shirt, and it was entirely his fault. It was, however, making a swift job out of making up for Wednesday.

Eyes widening a little in speculation as she laugh, Adah asked, "I don't know; do I? You tell me."

"Something I like, as well?" Adah asked, allowing herself to look intrigued and, not so easily controlled, leaning forward a little. "Or is this a completely selfish imagining?"

"Say no more," Adah said, her grin impossible to contain. "I think I like your imagination."
