"Sir will do," Kerrigan replied, dryly. "I was asked by a student named River Tam to ask you after some information you have regarding her..." the slightest of uncomfortable pauses, "...shutdown procedures."
"Shutdown procedures?" Bridge echoes. Yes, he knows exactly what she's talking about. No, he's not going to give anything away until he *knows* Kerrigan's here at River's request.
Kerrigan rubbed her forehead with two fingers. She didn't like this at all. "She says there's a word," she said frankly, "That puts her out. She also says you know it, Carson, and she wants me to ask."
Okay, so she knew that much. "How do I know she *really* asked you?" he says suspiciously. "And that you're not just trying to find out for... whatever reason?"
Oh, great. "Because I enjoy going around putting down young teeps," Kerrigan said, a hint of a snarl to her voice.
Touchy subject. Another forehead-rub. "I wouldn't be here if she hadn't insisted, and I probably like it a lot less than you do. Do you want to play twenty questions?"
"Not really," Bridge admits. "But I wouldn't be very trustworthy if I just gave that sort of information to the first person who came along, now would I?" he points out. "I could read your aura," he suggests. "It's a lot quicker than twenty questions and it'll let me know you're telling the truth."
"I'd just need to take my gloves off so I can see your energy," Bridge says with a shrug. "It'd help if you thought specifically about the conversation with River, that way I've got something to focus on and I wouldn't see anything private."
She looked at him, eyes narrowed. "If you find anything else," Kerrigan said-- calm and acquiescing while being mildly threatening anyway, "Keep it to yourself."
"Right," Bridge mutters, taking off his gloves and looking at Kerrigan, focusing on her energy. Moving past flickers of thoughts, bits and pieces... the number 24 on her arm, someone holding a gun to a kitten's head, Kerrigan flying away as a planet is overtaken with Zerg... yeah, he can see why she might not want to talk about that. Finally, he finds the conversation with River on Tuesday. Satisfied, he puts the gloves back on as he looks away. After a moment, he looks back up at her. "She trusts you, and that's good enough for me. It's in Russian," he says. "Eta kooram nah smech."
Kerrigan expelled a sigh. The one crack in the armor she was going to allow herself. For the moment. "'Eta kooram nah smech'. Right." Now, she did run a hand through her hair. Really hated this. "Thanks, Carson."
She rolled her eyes skyward for a moment. "Sure," Kerrigan said, after a moment, "Why not." She grabbed a handful of coins. "Catch you in class, cadet."
