Library; Wednesday [ 12/05 ]

Work, work, work. With a passing glance, Adah, clutching a mug of tea while her bag flopped heavily against her sigh as she limped in to open the library, passed the books entirely and decided that those would have nothing to do with the work she would do today. No, she'd only continue putting them back in the wrong places and, while she did sort of enjoy that, it was time better spent. Armed with a few keys to language, she settled in with books from her own room, the ones that looked the most worn, intent to unlock as many doors as she could in one day. With minor distraction for, well...having to do her job.

Maybe.

First things first; Adah has removed several notebooks from her bag with the intention of making sure that she hasn't forgotten what she's learned, filling pages with forwards and backwards combinations of you, brain, river, and Adah.

She'd feel bad, all this paper-wasting and killing the rain forest, if she hadn't actually been to the rain forest.

River quietly entered the library, smiling a little as her mind caught the words. She hadn't expected Adah to forget, as her strong determination should be enough to hold on to them. If Adah wanted River could add a few more to the collection, or offer creative alternatives to paper. In any case, she had brought an apple.

She approached the desk, her smile widening.

[SP yay!]

Of course, the trick of continuing her work despite having noticed someone would never work on River, but that didn't stop Adah, out of habit or out of pure stubbornness for habit, she continued writing as River approached.

But she did shift the litany of written words, reserving the lines specifically for the word river now, in some other, alternate method of expressing, that, yes, she noticed her, hello, how are you.

No, it didn't work, but River liked the way Adah said hello. She took a seat on the desk - it was strangely becoming a habit - then pointed at one of the books, saying: "Book." She hoped Adah would understand that meant 'hello, I'm fine, and you?'

Adah's head tilted as she finished the arch of an r, the first one, not the last one, but last at the moment, and then she lifted her eyes to see that whatever it was that River had said wasn't so much as a greeting as another words, and she followed the point of River's finger toward the books, and then back to River, for a confirmation.

River nodded cheerfully, repeating the word. "Book book book."

Something about the cheerful quality in the repetition made Adah smirk a little. Facing a page filled with the repetition of four words, she was in no room to talk. "Book," Adah repeated carefully, though still with amusement, and then set her pen down on her notebook, sliding them both toward River to add it to the list. As she did so, she thought about her day's goal: she'll have a whole page of words, unrepeated, maybe some of them even logically linked as sentences.

Okay, sentence fragments, maybe. Sentences might be pushing it, but Adah was determined as usual.

Neatly writing the work 'book' on the page, River then frowned a little. She pointed at the pen, "Pen," then the table, "Table," then added those words as well, beneath. Hopefully she wasn't rushing things, but if Adah wanted words, Adah would have them. She placed the apple next to the pile of books.

Maybe it was the color, or the movement, or some unconscious desire on Adah's part to be more in control of what words would be worked on than River was, she mostly ignored the pen and the table and looked toward the apple. She nodded at it, wanting to know its word. Maybe she even just felt she'd get more use out of knowing it around River than she would a pen or a table.

River's smile widened. "Apple," she said, then, pulling a fruit knife out of her pocket, added: "Knife." She cut the apple in half, holding both of them in one hand. "Half." Offering one to Adah, she said: "Share."

Yeah, and Adah absolutely followed all of that. Smirking still, though, she didn't seem to care and it certain didn't feel back about the lack of understanding in the words because she understood the gesture well enough, taking a break from the work to read out and take one of the halves. She nodded her head slightly, with a leftward lean, in thanks.

It pleased River that a break was acceptable, that sharing an apple was important too and that doing too much too fast hadn't upset Adah. Perhaps she was testing the limits too much, but she leaned forward to try and give Adah a quick kiss on the cheek.

It was a bit much, as Adah shifted from walls of words in her brain to focus on taking a bite of the apple, only to have it intercepted with a sudden kiss on the cheek, but, blinking slightly to access the situation, she smiled a little and figured that it wasn't too bad of a distraction. She smirked, lightly, and, uncertain if the angles would work for or against her in her efforts, Adah moved her head for an interception of her own, to lean in slightly to leave her own light kiss on River's lips.

When she noticed what Adah's intention was, Rover moved her head to make it less of an effort and returned the kiss, her eyes half-closed. Kisses distracting from apples distracting from words. She smiled.

Adah, also, smiled, slowly pulling away and settling because the slight stretch had been a little bit strenuous on her, but worth it. She bit her lip slightly, as her eyes stayed on River. She'd missed that, missed a lot of things, and, as almost everythign else seemed to just fall right back into place for her, back to where they were before the coma, it just felt...she didn't know what it was, but things never just went right back to how they were, it wasn't how things worked, so it made her suspicious.

With a light tilt on her head, River's eyes met Adah's. Perhaps there was something of the question she kept in her mind in them: What did she want? No, things never went back to the way they were, but that didn't mean they turned bad or less or something completely different. There was a hint of a smile on River's lips as she slowly raised her hand to brush her fingers against Adah's cheek.

Adah closed her eyes lightly, lifting her chin a little to encourage the brushing fingers. A small smile, and then she opened her eyes slowly to give River an apologetic look. Yes, she, the Guiltless, allowed a little bit of guilt.

Just a little. And only because she felt she should be preparing for some other doom around the corner at letting things so easily fall right back into place for what happened. After all, no one had even given her hell or high water for what happened. Something had to be wrong.

Shaking her head just a little, River smiled at Adah, hoping her eyes told her what she couldn't say in words. Nothing is wrong. This is how it should be. This is a good place. She let her fingers drift to lightly stroke Adah's hair.

Sighing lightly with her shoulders sagging, Adah kept her eyes and slightly frowning face toward River as she let the other gril run her fingers through her hair, which she rather liked and felt that River could do it as much as she'd like. It was weird, such easy acceptance, of so many things, from so many people around here. Nice, but strange, and then, finally, her eyes dragged away in light acceptance. Still wary, but acceptance none the less, and she closed her eyes again contentedly.

It was a good thing that Adah liked that, because River felt she could go on gently stroking and running her fingers through Adah's hair for a long, long time. Silently she watched, touched and listened, feeling perfectly content.

[And now I leave work and disappear for a while!]

Time to hit the books; Adah's attention on her work is very focuses, but that doesn't mean she won't notice anyone coming in. Just because she might not respond immediate doesn't mean anything, because she'd possibly not respond immediate in any given circumstance.

Rubbing her forehead, Adah let out a slight yawn. The work was more tedious than she had expected, but she found it interesting that she seemed in the frequent habit of writing her own name down backwards in the margins of a lot of her book. It reeked of narcissism. It left her feeling terribly amused.

Adah's very glad to take a minor break for something she knows she understands: food!

Back to work, although not for long. Adah found herself getting distracted in the much easier to understand pictures, dragging her finger along the lines of the various illustrations she comes by.

Giving up halfway through a volume of Poe, Adah decided that she'd worked enough for the day, especially considering that she didn't get far. She laid her head down on the desk and looked, instead, at the way the pages rested against each other, at the small stain from what looked like either grape juice or, from this angle, the bald head of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Up early because my availability this Wednesday is crap. That said, Sp is major, major love!!!
