"I...dunno. I hope it doesn't close down. I think I'm stuck here." He'd received a handwavey postcard from his dad saying he would be drivin' on through to January.
"I don't think it will close, there's too many of us from places where the holidays are different or have nowhere to go. I just didn't know if they were going to do anything special. If not, I might have to hit the store and get enough food to cook for those of us still on second floor."
Anemone blinked and looked at him. "Um, when is Christmas, anyway?"
"I don't know. For all I know, my guardians might decide to bring me home for a visit." The rolled eyes might give him a clue about how she felt about that particular idea. "I'm hoping to go visit someone sometime over the break, but I don't know what his schedule is like. For all I know, his evil overlord-boss has him working that week."
"Knowing John, he's trying to build a space ray," Anemone said dryly. "I don't know if his boss is evil-evil, or just stupid-evil, but I get the impression that there is some degree of evil. Oh, and I also get the impression that they're trying to take over the world, but I think all corporations are trying to do that this year. It's very hip."
"That's what corporations do! At least, that's what the newspaper tells me." Anemone nodded seriously. "Everything's all about corporate takeovers, and monopolies and stuff."
"What do they do when they win Monopoly?" Jack had never played that far. It's usually a case of Frustration or I Can't Afford Your Rent and then somehow the board gets tossed and the pieces scattered.
