English & Honors English
OOC: As I mentioned in
fandomhigh_ooc, all of the English classes are in a strange sort of magic time whereupon this class could be elapsing on just about any day for your character. Please don't think about it too much. If you do, your brain might break into a thousand pieces -- and that would be bad. Very bad indeed. I'm also breaking this post into two comment threads for English and Honors English alike, as both classes have more or less the same things.
English / Honors English :: Day One
The English classroom at first glance appears to be one of those Places That Time Forgot -- upon entering, the first thing that's instantly visible are stacks and stacks of books, all of which are .... well, stacked not so neatly upon the floor. Rows of desks are set up somewhat haphazardly through the room for students to sit at -- and at the very front of the room is a large teacher's desk, which the professor is currently sitting upon.
Behind the teacher's desk, there is one large window which seems to indicate that the outside day is, in fact, a wintry December evening, an image distinctively at odds with the fall day that the students have no doubt just come in from. As the students file into the room, Jenny bounds to her feet. "Um, hello! My name is, um, Jennifer Schecter, but you can call me Jenny. I'm, um, going to be teaching you all English this year. Well, the English language, I mean. How to use the English language better, I mean, because of course you all already know how to speak English, or you wouldn't be here, right?
"And, um, anyway? I know it's the first day of classes, but I think it would be a good idea for us to get to know each other, so, um, I'd like you all to fill this sheet out and return it to me by the end of the class period. Um. If you like, you can discuss the results with one another, because I think it's really crucial for us to get to know each other so we can realize how interrelated we all are, and this is the fastest way for us to, um, really get to realize what kindred spirits we all are to one another." And then she gets up and starts passing out the worksheets.

Walking back to her seat on top of her desk, Jenny smiles brightly. Oh, so brightly. "Well, what are you all looking at? Fill the worksheet out! Discuss! I'll be walking around to answer any questions that you might have."

I am taking this class because: Well, reading IS fundamental. And since my home life was far, far from perfect. On one hand, my father was an abusive drunk, who used me as a punching bag. Usually when things didn`t go the way he wanted. On the other hand, my mother was a religious freak, who acted as if I didn`t exist when things were fine. Oh, and she also liked to look at the bottom of the glass a lot. *sighs* And they even don`t know yet that I`m gay. That would go over swell with my parents. So, whenever it was possible, I took a book and read. A LOT. That way, there were less possibilites to end up dead.
My favorite book is: The Cluetrain Manifesto : The End of Business As Usual by Christopher Locke, et al. I`m interested in advertising. ;)
Death is: Inevitable. Period.
Love is: Nonexistant. I don`t believe in love. I believe in f***ing. It`s quick. It`s efficient. With the maximum amount of pleasure and a minimum amount of bull***.
The soul is: Nothing. I don`t believe in it. Once you die, you`re dead. Kaputt. Hasta la vista, baby. Bye, bye, world. *sighs* Well, you get my meaning. :)
My opinion on the similarities and differences between Theodore Geisel (pen name Dr. Seuss) and Ernest Hemingway (pen name Ernest Hemingway), especially as pertaining to the post-post-post-post-post modernist literary movement is: The way I see it, dr. Seuss makes me wanna throw myself from the highest mountain and die a slow death. He is just to damn happy for my taste. *sighs* And Hemingway? Um, didn`t he just, like, blow his head away or something? *scratches his head* So, I`m guessing he was pretty depressed. Just like his books are. Um, he makes me wanna shoot myself in the head too. So, for me, there is really no difference. And the similarities are, well, they have both a weird obsession with rhyme. *rolls his eyes* Like, closing on sick. Well, that makes me wanna poke myself in the eye with a pencil. Uh, I`m just not big on rhymes, Ms. I`m sorry.
