Basic Japanese - Wednesday November 28th - 3rd period
Taking a deep breath Yondaime passed out this week’s packet of phrases and words. “This week is similar to last in that we’re continuing on with informal speech and slang. This is more conversational type slang for going out to a party or a bar of some sort and possibly picking up a date,” he threw the students a smirk. “Not that I expect you to be doing any of that… going to a bar, I mean.”
“A lot of the phrases seem rather tame compared to how American’s do it, but politeness is a huge thing in Japan and so speaking like this to someone you don’t know is really ballsy. I’d just like you all to practice these sayings; they may or may not be on the final. I’m going to be going around asking if you did what I asked last week.”
Tanoshin deru? – Are you having a good time?
Tanoshii yo – Yeah, I’m having fun.
Kimi de kiteru no? – Did you come here alone?
Issho ni nomanai? – Shall we drink together? (Strangely very effective in Japan)
Koko dare ka yoyaku zumi? – Is this seat taken? (Cool way to say it… apparently)
Suwaranai? – Do you want to sit down?
Suwatte mo ii? – May I sit down?
Namae nante iu no? – What’s your name?

Denwa shite mo ii? – Can I call you?
Kawaisou – What a pity
Hidou na – Too bad
