Advanced Mad Science, November 27

Professor Tomoe looked better this week than last; clearly the jetlag had worn off in the time between classes. He greeted the students with a typical manic style. A large covered table and a bizarre blinking machine stood in the centre of a circle of desks.

"Good afternoon, class!" he said. "Today, we're going to talk about cloning. As I'm sure you're all very much aware, cloning is the process of creating an exact genetic copy of a living organism. Other geneticists have been able to successfully clone animals such as sheep and mice. There has been a lot of debate by weak willed scientists about the ethicalness of cloning human being, but we're going to completely bypass those concerns.

He gestured to the dangerous looking machine. "In today's class, I want you to dump a genetic sample, preferably hair or something similar. The machine will analyse it, and spit out 20 miniature clones than you, no taller than 5 to 7 centimetres tall. And what do you do once you have the clones, you may ask?"

He pulled the cloth off the table, revealing an intricate obstacle course, complete with ledges, deep holes, and (oddly enough) spike traps. "We're going to see how well you can lead them through the maze. These miniature clones won't be very intelligent, so they'll only respond to your direct orders. Try to get five of them through the maze without running into any ... disasters."

He let out a maniacal laugh before returning to normal.

"Good luck."

Kabuto blinked. "...What about this?" Forming a few hand seals, he created a couple of clones of himself. They weren't the more powerful shadow clones that Yondaime could make, and lacked proper substance...but really, they looked and acted identical to Kabuto. "They aren't miniature, and they're actually relatively useful." The clone on his right pushed its glasses up and smirked.

They were clones that cast no shadows, and really weren't all that solid. They were more like illusions than anything else. Mirror-images that could move independantly. "With training and chakra control, it's fairly simple," Kabuto said with a shrug, dismissing the clones.

"...Is the obstacle course really necessary?"

Cher immediately pulled her hair back in a scrunchie so no one could get at it for DNA purposes. "I'm pretty sure asking for my DNA is a violation of my civil rights."

Johnny plucked a piece of hair from his head and stuck it in the machine and grinned when little Johnny's came out. "Oh man, this is too cool."

Valentine thought for a moment.

And then he thought for a moment more.

And then, finally, he decided on pulling off a mask and using that for DNA, rather than plucking hair out of his head.

"Little dudes, look up here, that's right, at me. Now repeat what I say - Flame on!" Johnny watched as they all lit on fire. "Totally awesome! Now get your asses through that maze!"

There were little Valentines. Quite a few of them, actually, and they were all rather charming, Valentine thought. If not a little stupid.

"Really, if you would just stop falling onto the spikes, fewer of you would be dead," he said with a grimace as another one found its wee little self impaled. "Pull off your masks and fill up the pit with them, or something. Nono, you, don't jump into it first! From the ledge, from the ledge!"

This wasn't going very well until Valentine had a brilliant notion.

"The first five to get to the end of the maze alive get cake."

They don't need to know that cake is a lie.

There's a possibility, considering canon doesn't say anything Kabuto has never revealed his real parentage to anyone...
