NNSE, Monday, First period

"I hope you've enjoyed the last two classes," Lulu said, a mildly devious sparkle lighting her eyes. "However, we're going to depart just mildly from our main topic to discuss something less related to sex and more related to relationships. Today, we discuss what you do when you're in a relationship with more than one other person. In this world, at least, this is called 'polyamory'." She wrote the word on the board. "Obviously, for many of us, this wouldn't be considered the... default for relationships, although I imagine that, with all the possibilities out there, there are some worlds where it is.

"Polyamory is an umbrella term for a number of non-binary ways of looking at relationships. It involves plural relationships, where more than two people are sharing their lives together, as well as various forms of open relationships, in which two people are committed to each other but also share committment -- or even just sex -- with other people, whether a small group of 'friends with benefits' or the option to simply go and find other sexual partners as they will. There are many other permutations and combinations possible, as you can see in this packet thanks Wiki.

"Your activity today is to get together in groups of two or three, at which point you will simulate..." Lulu hesitated for just a moment there, but certainly long enough to let imaginations run wild as to just what was to be simulated. "... a verbal fight in a polyamorous relationship. Consider the possible struggles: one partner wishes an open relationship while the other does not; three partners are struggling over an imbalance in a triad relationship. I wish you to roleplay out these encounters to get an idea of how, in fact, these relationships are not so different from traditional monogamous relationships.

[OOC: I'll be gone for a couple of hours through the early evening to work on a group project for school, but other than that I'm around all day. Surprisingly not NSFW for once, but who knows where the comments will go. Plz to be waiting for OCD is up!]

Sokka tried to take notes, he really did. "You can DO that?!?!?"

"Why not?" Anemone pulled her head off the desk and blinked blearily at Sokka. "Is that a bad thing here? I mean, most people end up pairing off, but aren't you supposed to date lots of people? Or are the movies lying to me again?"

"Uh, I hate to break it to you," Sokka said, "but movies AREN'T REAL. They're made up." He looked around. "But I don't know. People do things differently here than they do back home. Lots more..." He gestured vaguely, in a way that made it seem like his hands were doing unspeakable things to each other.

"I never know which ones are based on real things, and which ones are pretend. I've never gotten to see movies before I came here, so I don't know how to judge." Anemone put her head back down on the desk.

"Of course there's lots of..." she waved one hand in a nebulous gesture. "This place is full of teenagers out from under the supervision of their parental figures. It's surprising there isn't more of it."

"They're not married," Sokka replied, as if all the implications of that were self-explanatory. "And some of them have scary drunk brothers!"

"Married? Why would they be? Do people get married here?" Anemone opened one eye again to look at Sokka. "They frown on people being married in my military, it creates a conflict of interest or something. Sometimes people get married, especially if they're going to have a baby, like Talho and Holland. Huh. I don't think those two are legally married, actually, but they're having a baby and exchanged rings privately, so it's the same thing I guess..."

"Scary drunk brothers are easily dealt with. Either kill them, or just bribe them with beer. Both are acceptable methods of disposal."

Anemone? Rambling? Never.

"Yes, people get married here," Sokka explained, slowly and carefully. "And you're supposed to do it before any..." His eyes bugged out. "KILLING SOMEONE IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ANYTHING!!!!"

There was something thrown in Sokka's direction as he flipped out and started shouting. It was a note that said "BE QUIET!"

It couldn't have been from Jack, who was sitting there with an innocent look on his...bag.

"Sure it is," Anemone said, mimicking his slow and careful speech. "Have you found a better way of dealing with idiots? I haven't."

"You're supposed to get married before what? I don't understand."

Sokka stared at her. "See, killing people is what we like to call 'bad'. In fact, we call it 'murder'. Unless you're fighting honorably in battle."

Never mind that he was plotting to kill Zuko's father in cold blood. That was different.

"Well, then, challenge the drunken one to a duel, if he can't be bought off." Anemone eyed Sokka blearily. "I don't go around killing people randomly, don't be silly. You only kill them if they get in the way of a mission. Wooing a girl? Totally a mission. Maybe not a kill-worthy mission, but maybe a maiming? Or threatening a maiming. Sometimes the threat of violence can work wonders."

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, yeah, THREATENING, that's different," Sokka replied. "Or beating someone up. But you don't just KILL people, mission or not."

"This? Is why they put me in Ethics. I don't get it," she whined, putting her head back down. "Go kill the terrorists, Anemone. Be a dear girl and commit genocide, Anemone. Don't kill people anymore, Anemone. Humans are confusing. You don't know your own minds about anything."

Re: During the Lecture/Chat

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-11-13 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka stared at her. "Okay, whoever wanted you to commit genocide? Was a BAD person. Not everyone thinks the same way." Sokka nodded, as if imparting a shining jewel of wisdom. "Some people are evil."
