Comparative Religions, Monday, Period 3, Week #9
When the class entered the danger shop (where they'd handwavily been told to come) they would find themselves walking through wooden doors into a temple filled with sunlight and the sharp, clean scent of timber. It was a harmonious construction of carved and shaped wood, from the vaulted roof to the parquetry floor. The bench pews were finished with finials carved in the shape of a torch flame, and the Sun-In-Glory was inlaid behind the altar in subtle parquetry. There were subtle geometric patterns everywhere: in the floor, on the bench seats, in the altar itself, and every colour of wood possible had been used.
On the altar was a fire, burning brightly, contained in a large stone bowl. Karal, dressed in formal robes, was standing in front of the altar, with Altra sitting beside him.
Once everyone was seated, he began speaking. "Professor Mal Doran requested I take this class today and speak of my faith." He looked sheepishly at her where she was lounging in one of the pews at the back. "I am a Sun-Priest of Vkandis Sunlord, and this is The Temple of The Lord of The Light at Sunhame, the capital of Karse." He gestured around the temple. "This is where I served as a Novice after my time in the Cloister.
Those who follow Vkandis Sunlord are called the Kin, and the head of His church is the Son of the Sun. The faith of Vkandis Sunlord has as its basis two sources of knowledge: The Writ, which is the Word of Vkandis and of His Prophets, and the Rule, which is the word of man shaping The Writ. The Writ holds the Prime Principle of Free Will, the fundamental tenet underpinning the faith of Vkandis. Above all, Vkandis Sunlord demands that a man - or a woman - learn how to think, to use their intelligence and their wisdom, and come to Him having thought through everything for himself. Free Will is the greatest gift of Vkandis: the power to choose or not to choose.
The Writ also contains the Great Rules," he smiled, "I'm not going to speak of all of them, else we'd be here forever. But there is one which is of great importance, particularly here, where we come from so many different worlds. It is the first of the Great Rules, and it says that we are to help each other, no matter who we are and where we come from. Help should be offered because it is needed, not because the person in need is deemed worthy based on some arbitrary scale.
Vkandis Himself said in the Book of Werthe, Canto Nine, Verse Twelve: He who does good in the name of another god, does it for Vkandis, and he who does ill in the name of Vkandis does it for the darkest demon in hell. Let those of good will bring succour to one another, and dispense with the naming of names."
Karal's expression was very solemn as he looked at the class. "No matter your faith or lack of one, this is wisdom. Do good for its own sake, help because it is needed. Your actions speak for themselves, no matter in whose name you do them. Which is something the Church forgot, to its detriment and the detriment of the Kin. I've prepared a hand out on the history of the Church," he passed some pages around the room, photocopies of his impeccably neat handwritten original, "but it is not an entirely pleasant one. It was only through the direct intervention of Vkandis Sunlord Himself and the courage of Solaris, the Son of the Sun, that the Church has begun to redeem itself."
He smiled down at Altra. "This is Altra, who is a Firecat, an Avatar of Vkandis Sunlord. He is just one of the ways Vkandis has intervened directly in the world." Altra snorted, looking unimpressed. "He'll also be happy to answer--" Altra gave him a pointed look, tail twitching, "--well, he's willing to answer questions. If you wish, you can participate in the Cleansing Ceremony - in Karse, children throw an object into the fire to symbolise they are putting aside their childhood, but you could write a message or a note, or draw a picture, to represent something you wish to put behind you and throw it into the Presence Flame." He gestured at the fire on the altar behind him. "There's also Karsite black tea steeping in a kettle at the back of the temple which you may try, but be careful, it's extremely strong!"

Cleansing Ceremony
Re: Cleansing Ceremony
My past. The bad parts and the good. I want to overcome that I hate so much of it and come to a point where I can accept it all.
She then folded it up and flicked it into the fire.

Scribbling a note down on the piece of paper, he folded and tossed it into the flame, watching it burn up.
Try some tea
The cups are tiny for a reason.
