Ethics [Thursday, November 8, 1st period]

Anakin was quieter than usual, trying to shake off the feeling of foreboding he'd woken up with. He hoped it had nothing to do with the bachelor party he'd be attending later in the day.

His weekend plans weren't far from his mind, though, as the day's lesson made clear. "Love is patient, love is kind," he began, then made the universal symbol for "blah, blah, blah" with his hand.

He might secretly be a soft touch on the subject, but no one in this room would ever know it.

"In the Jedi Order, we were taught that in order to maintain proper distance, to negotiate impartially across our galaxy, we were to strive for serenity, not passion. To be proper Jedi, we shall not know anger, or hatred, or love."

He crossed his arms over his chest and glanced around the room, eyes resting on Qui-Gon and Jaina for longer moments. "Is this an unreasonable standard to hold someone to?"

"I didn't say that," John replied. "I'm just saying it seems a little extreme."

"It's been policy for a thousand generations," Anakin snipped. "How extreme can it be?"

"Why are you even asking us this question knowing no one here who isn't a Jedi can even begin to consider agreeing with the code?" He was a little snippy in response.

"Don't presume to be speaking for every non-Jedi being in the universe," Anakin practically spat.

"I said nothing about the universe," he retorted. "I'm just looking around the room."

Anakin rolled his eyes. "I'm sure that someone else will be able to see the logic of this."

"Something makes me think you didn't at some point," John said. "Oh, I know, maybe the fact that you managed to have kids?"

Anakin slapped his hand down on John's desk hard enough to make the wood crack. "You think maybe, just maybe that might be why I have a different understanding of why Jedi did what they did than the stupid, hormore-crazed non-Jedi in this room?"

John nodded his head and glared. He wasn't impressed with the desk slap, but speaking right now would just get him in a lot of trouble. And not just with Anakin.
