Fandom Invasions Class #9 (Thursday period 3)

When the class entered the Danger Shop, they found themselves standing on the grounds around the school.

"Good morning," John said. "Last week was about zombies, this week we're going to be covering an invasion that was outside my own expertise. Which just goes to prove that no matter what you're used to dealing with, eventually in Fandom you're going to run into something completely outside your experience.

"For me, that was when we were invaded by dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. I never dealt with them before, but I took what I did know and applied it to that situation, with the result being that I have the makings of a saber tooth catskin rug if I wanted one." John grinned.

"So today's about using what you've learned in facing the other threats we've studied in this class, as well as any personal experience you have to deal with Fandom's version of a blast from the past."

Peter gave her sad, soulful eyes.

Claire laughed in his face.

"That look doesn't work on me."

"Damn." Peter snapped his fingers in disappointment. "I'll have to try harder."

Claire nodded sagely.

"See that you do."

Peter snickered. "So - I've got a date tomorrow."

As clearly talking about the class topic was just not happening.

"No way!"

Claire grins.

"Who with?"

"Irulan?" Peter said. "Do you know her?"

"No."

Claire shook her head. "What's she like?"

She asked that to stop herself commenting on her being a girl.

"She's a princess," Peter said. "But she's nice. Cute. Sense of humor."

"Princess, huh?"

Claire folded her arms to him him a drly amused glance.

"Sure she's not out of your league?"

"Oh I'm positive she's out of my league," Peter replied. He grinned. "But can't fault a guy for trying, right?"

Claire laughed and spread her arms.

"Hey, good luck," she said. "You have any plans?"

"Keeping it simple," Peter said. "I'm taking her for coffee. Hopefully that way I won't accidentally do something to make her people want to invade our planet."

Claire nodded sagely.

"Try and not cause an intergalactic war."

"I live every day with that as my mantra," Peter replied, deadpan.

"Good mantra to have," Claire agreed. "Especially of you keep dating aliens."

"I'm not sure I'll make it a habit or anything," Peter said. Though he did have to admit he was starting to show a trend in that direction.

Claire grins again.

"If this works out you might not date for a long time."

"I'm not sure if that's good or bad," Peter admitted. "Either way, hopefully I can get them to say something different on the radio."

"I was trying to be positive," she said helpfully.

"Can we bribe them into saying something nice?"

"Positive is appreciated," Peter said. He shrugged. "It's not so much good or bad as it is confusing. Sam and I are just getting back on an even keel, you know?"

Because talking about this in the class taught by Sam's father was smart.

"Yeah?"

Claire smiled again, quietly.

"I saw him on Monday," she said, because she'd almost asked him about Peter then. "Stabbed myself through the hand."

"He got to see you?" Peter left that question right where it was, since he figured Claire knew what he was talking about, and part of keeping a secret was knowing when not to say things out loud.

"He asked," she said easily, not anywhere near as cautious as she'd been in the past.

"He's been helping me look up all this stuff about evolution and genetics."
