Study Hall -- Friday, September 30th

Welcome to Friday's study hall. Sorry I didn't open the doors sooner. I was off venting some frustrations at the firing range.

In any event, a few announcements:

-- drgrissom, if you're still up for detention, it is all yours, and yes, you're free to experiment on the students within reason. (For example, "Does this student weigh as much as a duck?" is within reason, while "Can this student catch an anvil on the tip of their tongue like a snowflake?" is not within reason.) Teachers, I will post a sign-up sheet in this study hall for you to report which students will have detention this weekend.

"It is," Kitty says. "His name is Lockheed."

::Lockheed sniffs the cookie suspiciously and growls at Marty.::

"He's kinda protective of me," she adds apologetically. "I'd like a cookie, though. Are you running for office?"

Marty offers his open hand in a non-threatening manner to Lockheed to sniff it. Much like you would do to a dog.

"Yep. Security office. I'm with the Batsh*t Crazy Ticket. Don't let the name fool you. We're a little weird, but nice guys. You're kitty right? We met briefly during the whole Zombie episode last weekend."

::Lockheed doesn't appreciate the comparison, but he does appreciate the effort. He snorts a plume of smoke and settles into a less defensive stance.::

"Yes, I'm Kitty. Marty, isn't it? Sorry, last weekend was crazy and I ended up going back home for part of it. So, um, how will you contribute to this school if I vote for you?"

Marty pulls out a copy of the BSC Platform (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhighdorms/132726.html#cutid2) which goes into detail regarding the security ideas he has and hands it to her.

"Mostly the idea is to set up some student related services that will help the campus. An early warning system, a dispatch service so Rover isn't on guard 24/7, a service that will escort student to town and back if they are worried about their safety and coordinate security issues between Rover and the FTPD."

Marty offers Lockheed the cookie again.

"That sounds reasonable," Kitty says.

::Lockheed sniffs the cookie. Eyeing Marty warily, he takes the cookie.::

"What do you think about teaching some of the inexperienced students about self-defense?" Kitty asks.

Marty gives Lockheed a smile.

"Part of the platform actually. Free training for those interested in hand to hand combat, Fire arms training or sword fighting. There's been too many cases of Zombies, gremlins and tentacle monsters around here for someone not to be interested."

::Lockheed belches a small flame and looks satified with himself.::

"Sounds like a good plan. I could help teach people if you like. If you win," Kitty says.

"Really? What kind of background do you have?"

"My old school had a really strong self-defense program," she says. "There's some moves that are easy to learn. I mean, I can't turn people into zombie-killing machines or anything, but...," she hesitates, looks around for a moment, then lowers her voice. "It seems to me that one of the big problems right now is that people are scared. There are students here with amazing powers and the one who don't have any 'special' abilities are feeling threatened. Maybe if we can teach people some defense moves, they won't be as afraid."

Marty nods in agreement. "I think we also need to promote the idea of individual responsibility when it comes to the use of weapons, magical powers or whatever abilities people may have. I think that's the real reason a weapons ban was put into place... too many people abused that responsibility."

Kitty nods. "I think the underlying issue with the weapons controversy is one of trust. We can't get them to remove the weapons ban until we can establish trust between the students and the administration, and among the students themselves."

Marty smiles.

"I think we're on the same page here. Listen, if by some miracle should occur and I win this election, I'd like to take you up on that offer of training."
